Elopement in the Evergreens

Elopements typically have a very intimate feel, but...host them in the middle of nature, and a whole new level of romance is reached!
 

Valerie of Valerie Joy Photography says, “The initial idea for this style shoot was mine, but I brought a blogger and designer friend (Maddie Butterfield of MBO+D) in on the plan to make it even better! We knew we wanted a burgundy and blush color scheme, and we wanted everything to be out in nature.”

 

Shooting in a friend’s yard, Valerie explains, “It was the very end of fall, and everything was looking pretty brown and dead, so evergreens were about our only option to have some life in the background...And the evergreens have such a tailored look to them with their cone shape. I thought they gave balance of elegance in nature.”

“I wanted the models to look great, but since this was an elopement, we felt we had the freedom to dress outside of traditional wedding wear,” says Valerie. “We wanted our models to look classic and romantic, but we didn’t feel it needed to be in the white color family.” The bride’s hair was loosely curled and the makeup palette kept simple to keep with an overall romantic look and feel.
 

For the florals, Valerie selected loose stems from Four Season Flowers in Fort Wayne. “I was going for an epic, large and wild bouquet,” she says.

Inspired by the floral and the burgundy and blush color scheme, Maddie created the sample invite and menu card. She was also the creative mind behind the dessert buffet, adding a variety of pretty sweets and a charcuterie board.
 

“I felt the color scheme was a trendy one,” says Valerie. “But otherwise, I tried to keep things fairly classic, which is my style of photography...classic, joyful, romantic.”
