Thomas proposed to Maizee with a Christmas ornament on Christmas morning, and it was Maizee’s vintage engagement ring that inspired the 1920s theme behind their wedding. Thomas had but one wish—for Yesterdog Hot Dogs to be catered. That and their huge guest list of 450+ led them to their lovely venue.
Maizee’s Mori Lee fit and flare gown from Pierre’s Bridal in Lansing, Michigan was a lace dream. She loved how she was made to feel welcomed and special.
Maizee says of her gorgeously unique wedding, “Almost everything that wasn’t being done by a vendor was done by myself, my mother, or family and friends. All of the decorations I did myself and our dear family friends made a beautiful backdrop for our photobooth/selfie station. My mother and I planned the day down to the minute. We figured out how the venue was to be set up and decorated, found people to serve and clean up food, found and made decorations for each table, made backdrops for the sweetheart table and the bar, bought all the wine, beer, and soda ourselves, and everything else wedding planners and organizers do, we did it!”
“The vintage theme of our wedding and the era was all about glitz and glam so gold was of course in our color scheme,” says Maizee. “Then, to keep it clean and simple, I wanted just black and white. Our flowers had a splash of color with the subtle peach rose, but we made sure it was a color that went well with gold.”
Advice From the Bride
My biggest advice is to live in the moment. This is a huge day and yes, you have so much to do, but don’t get lost in the planning. Enjoy the experience of getting to try on dresses, smell beautiful flowers, choose decorations and fun stuff like shoes. Take the time to sit down with your spouse to be and just enjoy each other’s company in ‘this stage of life’ the ‘engaged stage.’ It will pass so quickly and it really is a fun time so slow down and don’t fret, things will fall into place so enjoy the ride."
What We Love
This black, white and gold 1920s themed wedding couldn’t be any more lovely. And did we mention how cute the “flapper” guests are? There’s just something about inviting guests into a wedding theme that has such a fun-loving and extra special effect. We hope you enjoyed this couple’s unique nuptials!
