Angela and Nick met when Angela was working at Hot Topic back in 2007. Nick came into the store to look around and asked for her opinions on CDs (playing it cool). Angela adds, “We chatted for a while and he left. I kept seeing him pass back and forth in front of the store. About an hour later, he worked up the courage and came in and asked me on a date.” The couple dated for a month, but then broke it off because the relationship was long distance and living that far apart did not work for them. It was not until ten years later that they would date again after remaining friends for that entire time!

It was February of 2018 when Nick asked Angela to marry him. She says, “We were at a brewery with his family. We had been there for about an hour and he started to stammer and get nervous.” Angela was confused and started to wonder what was going on. “Then he got down on one knee,” she adds. “The whole place was staring and clapping.”

Angela and Nick started planning the wedding by picking out their venue. They picked out their venue because it was halfway between their respective hometowns. Angela remarks, "Originally it was a church named Immaculate Conception, which was the name of the school/church I grew up at. It has since been decommissioned so it's just a venue that looks like a church. It was perfect for our tastes.”

When it came to picking out her wedding dress, Angela knew she wanted a dress with long sleeves and intricate details. She adds, “We went to an event called Run for the Dress where they have discontinued dresses. My mom, who is blind, was with me and was just feeling for long-sleeve ones and somehow found the perfect one.”

What we love

We love that Angela and Nick went with an offbeat, unique theme for the wedding. The florals alone were eye-catching. Angela says, “I only had a florist for my bouquet and boutonniere. I ended up getting my bouquet tattooed on my side. In that tattoo, the ribbon that hangs off the handle says ‘Null Drei’, which means 'zero three' in German and he got ‘Drei Null’, three zero because our anniversary is 03-30. And we got it on our hips because we are the Hipps!”

Advice from the bride

Angela says, “Everyone was very appreciative that I was an accommodating bride. Trying to nitpick and dictate everything will just make it more stressful. My mom said some things are bound to go wrong, so just plan the best you can but don't fret the smaller stuff.”
