This Grand Rapids Camp Style Shoot is Taking Us Back to the Age of Disco

Feeling nostalgic for the care-free vibes that were a major part of this decade, a team of creative wedding vendors in the Grand Rapids area got together to pull off a shoot that was filled to the brim with vintage looks of the 1970s. "We wanted to partner with a newer campground venue in Michigan to create a nostalgic, 70s retro, camp wedding. We used vintage drinks, a retro color palette, refurbished lanterns, dried mushrooms and other outdoor elements to allow it to all come together," Autumn Thornsberry, the photographer, shares.
 

The venue was a major part of the reason the team decided to take on the challenge of this shoot. As Autumn raves, "This venue has a nostalgic, campground feel. It sits along a lake, full of wooden cabin getting-ready spaces, indoor and outdoor reception areas and two beautiful ceremony spots to choose from. Both, overlooking the water and treeline." The whole team suggests this venue as a place for couples who love the outdoors, especially if they want some beautiful surroundings for their big day. And we love the cozy campfire shots that came at the end of the shoot!
 

As for the décor, the team focused on muted red, blue and yellow as those were the colors they felt emulated the nostalgic feel. The lanterns around the shoot created fun lighting options and even allowed the photographer to take some really cool pictures of the couple. The tablescape was kept pretty simple with a wooden table to highlight the nature around them and simple white plates with a dark blue napkin and elegant silverware and dinner glasses were used. They also made sure to incorporate plenty of  gorgeous flowers with unique textures and colors for this shoot.
 

Speaking of beauty, take a look at that bride and groom! For the bride's gown, provided by Becker's Bridal, the team had a specific feel in mind but not really a distinct style. "The dress was chosen as it is easy to move around in between woodsy locations but also has really beautiful embellishments that reflect with the sunlight," Autumn explains. Inspired by the gown, the hair and makeup team kept the bride's hair down to flow with the shoot and utilized glowy makeup to imitate the sparkles of the dress. The groom is in a classic navy suit that never goes out of style!
 

Last but not least, the team went in a different direction than most weddings with their choice of dessert. Instead of a cake, they chose to go with pies! Autumn says, "The desserts were handmade by the venue owner. We chose to use apple hand pies." While it is a different take on a dessert, we feel that it fits this style shoot so well as it reflects the individuality of the 70s. Plus, they look so delicious, we wish we could take a bite!
