Abigail and Stephanie met while attending college at Ball State University and were friends for around four years before they started dating. On a trip to Hawaii, Stephanie took the chance to propose to Abigail while they were snorkeling in Turtle Bay.
Wanting to create a more custom style, Abigail bought a dress and took it to a local designer to add a French bustle to it. "This was actually the first dress that I tried on! It was not at all what I thought I wanted and so I wanted to try it on to eliminate it from the running, but I fell in love with the way it fit and how comfortable it was," Abigail gushes. After trying on many more dresses, Abigail decided this was the one. They wanted teal to be a part of their day, so they started with a peacock color, which inspired Stephanie's suit color. The suit was custom designed by Stephanie (with the help of a local designer) to have pineapple lining and map buttons. We think both brides look absolutely stunning in the photos Beth Waterman Photography captured!
The happy couple hoped to find vendors who could pull off a wedding with all the bells and whistles without having to do additional legwork, especially on the day of the wedding (like setting up and tearing down). The Ivory Foundry worked out well as owner Beth also does photography and has a design company, Ivory by Design, that provides planning, coordination and florals! As Abigail explained, "We got to do the fun parts, and stay involved without the stress or mess." All of their vendors were inclusive and had amazing reviews. Abigail and Stephanie also chose to incorporate their favorite local LGBTQ+ designer to make Stephanie's suit.
As mentioned before, teal is one of their favorite colors, so Abigail and Stephanie knew they had to incorporate it in their big day. From there, they chose to pair it with a navy and created a gem-toned wedding palette. Not wanting to overwhelm their guests with too many bold colors, they used white and plenty of greenery to help balance out the colors. Overall, they created an elegant celebration with gold touches and an abundance of plants to liven up the space!
What We Love
"We had a private last dance before leaving the venue, which gave us one last moment to soak up the day together before our sparkler
exit. We opted for a sweetheart table for two reasons: one, to get some one-on-one time with each other, and two, to allow our bridal party to sit with their plus-ones," Abigail shares. They also asked a close friend to sing for their first dance instead of playing a recorded song, which created a special moment. In addition, Abigail made the invitations for their big day!
Advice from the Couple
"Be intentional about making time to be together and doing the things that are important to you. The day really does fly by!" Abigail and Stephanie advise.
