Unveiled Weddings and Events was all in with the Avant Garde theme when they decided to enter our 2021 Style Shoot Design Contest! “When we first started planning this shoot our main focal point was incorporating a black dress,” Allison of Unveiled Weddings explains. “Black dresses aren’t super common, and we wanted to really push the boundaries by choosing an artsy styled makeup look and hair style.”
The model being a tattoo artist–and being covered in tattoos herself–helped them achieve the non-traditional bridal look. Her short, pink hair created another fun element to play with. “Tina has really short hair, so we knew we had to do something ‘tall’ to give us the Avant Garde feel – why not a curled mohawk? It fit our mood, and is totally something different that not many people do,” Allison raves. They also kept the bold look alive in her editorial-styled makeup.
Another theme the team leaned on in this shoot was being out in nature. There were lots of dried flowers and natural elements incorporated throughout. The only difficulty was getting the shoot completed before rain rolled in, and we are so glad they were able to! The team even incorporated one of the required 2021 Pantone Colors of the Year, Ultimate Gray, into the gorgeous flowers by Unveiled Weddings and metallic details of the shoot. Allison shares, “We incorporated Ultimate Gray by mixing metals, and using these large gray votives on the table, as well as our florals having bits of gray in the leaves and parts of the hydrangeas.” Gray was also included in the beautiful stationery items designed by Your Little Details.
Most of the décor in this shoot had a moody, Art Deco feel to it. The rich, dark colors blend well with the florals and add just the perfect amount of pop to this shoot. Allison gushes, “They brought in this burgundy colored old velvet chair that matched with some of the florals perfectly.” We love the idea of centering this Avant Garde shoot around the color black, which is such a contrast to the beautiful light scenery around it!
The four-tiered cake is a stunning piece to bring the whole shoot together. “The gold pieces are sporadic, and some layers with the black were ‘crumpled’ with wafer paper to give a textured look similar to the dessert linen,” Allison says. It blends the gold accents on the table with the black dress and other dark elements of the shoot perfectly.
