We have heard about a number of things that inspire artists within the wedding community. However, we have never been told that a haircut inspired an entire shoot before. For Lizzie of Dear Fern Photography, hair is what started this whole vision. She says, “Our vision all started when a friend posted that she was going to cut her dreadlocks short. She was looking for a photographer to take photos of her so she could remember how long and amazing her hair was. We contacted her suggesting she model for us for a small styled wedding shoot and she was all for it!” She contacted Yours By Design Events to help plan the shoot and the rest is history.
The team wanted to incorporate elements that were edgy and emotionally raw. Lizzie adds, "The color palette was chosen because we wanted to bring in a moody feel! We brought in a touch of mauve to the florals to help with this. We wanted to have some contrast with the gold accents so we used unique green, mauve and darker colors.”
The venue served as the perfect backdrop for the shoot. “We were wanting to add a little bit of a modern touch to our shoot and the look of this venue helped us do that,” says Lizzie. “It has a ton of natural light which is amazing for photos along with the vintage cars and industrial look, it really helped make the whole style complete!”
The look for this shoot was actually found by luck. The dress was a random find on Poshmark, but it was the ideal boho gown. With the dreads as the center point of the look—the team kept it simple and clean.
The cake and florals also added to the organic edges of this shoot. Lizzie adds, "Hannah with HGRCatering really outdid herself. Simple and modern with a touch of the green color we included in other decor. That along with the boho-styled floral pieces made the cake into something just different enough to catch your eye."
