An Elegant Carmel, Indiana Celebration: The Real Wedding of Katie and Corey Evans

One of Katie's best friends was dating Corey's roommate and encouraged Katie and Corey to meet. Corey made the first move and asked her on a date. Fast forward and Katie went to pick up their dogs from doggie daycare one day and came home to signs asking if she would marry Corey around the house and Corey waiting upstairs with a ring!

Though she went in thinking she knew what she wanted, Katie ended up with a completely different wedding dress than she expected. "The consultant had brought a simple form-fitting, structured strapless gown into my fitting room at the beginning of my appointment, but I thought I would hate it so I waited to try it on until the very end," Katie recalls. "As soon as I came out and stood in front of the mirror, I knew it was 'the
one.'" We think she looks gorgeous in that elegant gown and love that she included her grandmother's gold and diamond ring to her attire.

Katie was already very prepared to start planning when she got engaged. "I already knew who I wanted to use for hair and makeup, florals and DJ, so it was just a matter of finding a date at that point!" Katie gushes. To solidify a date, Katie knew she needed to tack down a venue as things were filling up quickly from postponed 2020 weddings. As for color scheme and design, Katie relied on Pinterest to help bring her vision to life! Most of the vendors they chose either came from being friends with them or finding people who matched their vision.

What We Love

The DJ for their reception had actually worked as the DJ for Katie's sister's wedding as well as Corey's brother's wedding, so they knew that he was the perfect DJ for their reception to keep people on the dance floor. Katie raves, "The dance floor was packed all night, people stayed until the lights came on, and the photobooth was always busy. Our friends and family still tell us how much fun they had at our wedding, which was exactly what we wanted."

Advice from the Couple

"It’s so easy to get caught up in wanting to have a Pinterest-worthy wedding or to compare your wedding to someone else’s. In the grand scheme of things, it’s you and your significant other’s day, and it should be a reflection of what is most important to the two of you. The people who truly love and care about you will understand that. Weddings are expensive enough as is, and it’s not worth going into debt over," Katie and Corey advise. "A side note on vendors—if you’re in communication with multiple vendors during the vetting process, be sure to let them know if you’ve decided to go with someone else. It’s just the polite thing to do!"
