Megan and David met through a mutual friend the summer before Megan's senior year of college. After dating for awhile, David proposed to Megan at her parents' lake house with some help from a friend. "He put a new collar on my dog and it said 'Megan and David Sparling, July 4th, 2020', and then he got down on one knee," Megan explains.
When they started planning, Megan and David both agreed they wanted to celebrate in their favorite city of Detroit. "We both grew up going downtown for sports games and nights out and wanted to show our guests the historic and hip parts of Detroit," Megan gushes. Megan utilized social media to help her plan her wedding. With bridal groups on Facebook, Pinterest boards and photos from friends' weddings, she felt more than inspired. Some of the vendors she hired even helped her find the band for her reception!
Despite initially wanting an outdoor venue, Megan and David found the Masonic Temple and loved the way it was renovated. "We chose the Masonic Temple because of the space that the ballroom provided and also the upstairs balcony that gave people the opportunity to overlook the entire ballroom, even if it wasn’t outside," Megan raves. Finding a place that fit what she imagined and wasn't rescheduling due to COVID took a lot of stress away from the couple.
Megan and David were able to D.I.Y. a few items for their special day and even had their guests help with one. "I made every single centerpiece with the help of my godmother and mom. Each centerpiece was eucalyptus and Ling’s moment roses wrapped around a lantern. Twenty of these took about five hours to make with three people working!" Megan admits. For their guestbook, Megan and David had their guests sign a bench, so they could use it forever. And Megan's dad helped make wooden bases for her succulent wedding favors.
What We Love
Not really knowing what she wanted in a dress, Becker's Bridal was able to help Megan decide on her beautiful wedding gown. Megan says, "I was between a sheath dress and an A-line and decided that I loved the A-line with a low back and long train." We think she looks stunning in the one she chose!
Advice from the bride
Megan advises, "Just be present and enjoy all that you have spent so much time planning. It goes by so fast. Also, have a fun breakfast with family the next day to reminisce."
