This Halloween-Themed Celebration is Full of Tricks and Treats: The Real Wedding of Jeannie and Craig Sterler

Photos ByIan Borgerhoff Photography

Jeannie and Craig met while she was working at a warehouse that Craig shared with Jeannie's employer. After flirting with each other for over a year, they finally got together. When he decided he wanted to propose, Craig hatched a scheme with Ken from Aadvanced Limousines of Indianapolis and Tyler Shives, their videographer. Under the guise that Ken was shooting a commercial, Jeannie and Craig reached the spot where Craig was going to ask. Their six kids were standing with a sign that said, "He's joking", but when Craig got down on one knee, they revealed it actually said, "He's NOT joking"!

Despite being in the wedding industry for a long while, Jeannie had a difficult time finding the right dress. "I went to four different dress shops and tried on about 40 dresses. I had originally planned on having a black wedding gown, but as soon as I tried my dress on, I knew it was 'the one'," Jeannie admits. Still wanting to have a spooktacular black element incorporated into her wedding look, Jeannie added a black veil. We love the way her look came together, especially all the sparkly details on her dress!

Both Jeannie and Craig have numerous years of experience working in the wedding industry, so they leaped into wedding planning with joy! Jeannie shares, "We wanted to do something different that neither one of us has done or seen before. At first, this wedding started as a joke where we were going to invite our friends and family to a Halloween Costume Party." While the original plan was to stop the dancing and host a ceremony, they decided to go a more traditional route with their wedding. We love how unique this wedding became and that costumes were encouraged!

The wedding they planned was an elaborate affair with all the special effects and plenty of fun surprises! Jeannie and Craig assembled their props and décor from Craig's company, Sterler Productions, as soon as they got engaged to make sure they designed it together. They included the bridal party walking in to Metallica songs, an objection by Elvis himself—that only ten people knew about—and even a hearse as their getaway car! We love all the spooky details of their Halloween wedding from the eerie cake to the lighting displays throughout the day.

What we love

Accomplishing their goal of a unique wedding, Jeannie and Craig won awards for how special their wedding was, but that wasn't the best part of it all. "We think what really made our wedding special was that we designed and produced it together," Jeannie explains. "Making sure not only that our warped sense of humor was designed into every detail but also being able to create a sophisticated yet fun spin on a Halloween wedding, making it a day that our guests and us will never forget."

Advice from the Couple

Jeannie and Craig advise, "Make it special. You can make formal fun. Incorporate your personalities into every aspect of your wedding day and have fun and enjoy your day!"
