In this WeddingDay Exclusive Style Shoot, historic style is brought to life within the inspiring Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum. Sarah Farthing of All in the Details, the planner and designer for this shoot, curated a one-of-a-kind Art Deco style to emulate the extraordinary surroundings of the building that was captured by Simply Seeking Photography. Sarah says, “You cannot help but be inspired by the history that surrounds you at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum; it transports you to another time.”

Alishia Iddings, Event Manager for the museum, says, “The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum is where the world’s finest cars of yesterday live today! Over 120 classic, antique, vintage and special interest cars are displayed with other automotive related exhibits on three floors. The museum is located in the original 1930s Art Deco national headquarters of the legendary Auburn Automobile Company and is a National Historic Landmark. Given the grandiose history of the building and the cars within it—it is easy to be attracted to the allure of the space.

The museum hosts a Grand Staircase in its main showroom where many wedding ceremonies take place. Alishia adds, “The entire museum will stay open for the duration of your reception for your guests to enjoy. Having your wedding and reception at the Museum is an exclusive, once in a lifetime experience. You and your guests will love it and talk about it for years to come!”

Sarah and team focused in on making an Art Deco theme that was true to history yet still fun for a modern bride. She says, “We stayed true to the Art Deco design concept in many aspects of the shoot but added some pops of color and bold (or rather, ‘roaring’) surprise elements throughout.” The color palette to this shoot was crucial. Sarah adds, “Art Deco is quite often associated with a palette of metallics, black, white and neutrals. I ran with the black and white palette and added in traditional metallics through gold elements to allude to luxury and wealth. I wanted to also bring in a bold emerald green to represent the liveliness of the Roaring '20s.”

The bridal look was also inspired by the time period. “A great deal of applaud should go towards Something Blue Stylists for making our model appear as to have stepped right out of an Old Hollywood film,” remarks Sarah. The old-style hair and glamorous makeup made for an ultra-stylish look that many brides seek.

A few elements that helped to make the Art Deco theme come to life were the rental items. Sarah adds, “Simply Elegant Chair Covers & Linen based in Rochester Hills, Michigan has a variety of chair covers available for rent. In keeping with our sleek Art Deco theme, they provided us with some black spandex covers that helped create a more cohesive look within the space.” LGi Linens, based in Indianapolis, provided velvet table cloths for added texture and interest. The rich colors used in the shoot created layered, eye-catching aesthetics.
