With rustic and vintage vibes making a bold comeback a few years ago, their continued popularity has proven that these wedding styles are more substantial than fleeting trends. But modern-styled weddings are proving that the contemporary look is also in right now—literally. Modernized weddings are all about what's hot right now; the sharp lines, bold color contrasts, up-lighting and lots of white space.
A group of Indianapolis-based vendors embarked on a mission to collaborate on an ultra-chic, modernized wedding at one of downtown Indianapolis' hottest wedding venues. The end result had us thinking one thing: modern. weddings. for. the. win.
This style shoot, appropriately entitled "Modern Wedding Inspiration Shoot" was a team effort between some of Indianapolis' most prominent vendors. Photographer Daus Miller of Dauss Foto approached Sarah Keeker of Plum and Poppy Weddings in hopes of collaborating on a style shoot together. Because Sarah had just completed a rustic-styled barn shoot, she was ready for something a little different.
"My only qualification was that it needed to be super modern and really out of the box for Indiana," says Sarah.
Their ultimate goal was to stay away from trendy concepts and instead, create a trend that brides could draw inspiration from. That vision was executed through a color scheme that is very much outside of the box! Rather than focusing on two complimentary colors, the style shoot used a tone-on-tone approach with white-on-white ceremony decor and black-on-black reception decor—all while incorporating pops of tropical flowers.
When it came time to settle on a venue, the choice was clear. The innovative space of D'Amore was too perfect to pass up. With 360-degree views of downtown Indianapolis and an all-white interior, the venue served as the blank canvas that this style shoot required.
The décor was so diverse and contrasting yet complimentary; it used a combination of metallics, purples, black and white.
"For the ceremony, we wanted everything to be white to give it this crisp look. Then the cocktail hour had many purple elements, while the reception ended in black sequin linens. We thought this would create an evolution of color for guests as they moved throughout the day," explains Sarah.
The rentals that were showcased in this style shoot was a joint effort between Wow-Factors rental company and Accent Floral Design. Wow-Factors brought in (and by brought in, we mean carried up numerous flights of stairs. After all, D'amore is the highest point in Indy!) stunning pieces including the chuppah, chandelier, crystal draping and large candelabras. They also provided the white chic furniture for the shoot and a custom dance floor, head table and gold accent king's chairs. Accent Floral Design came to the table (no pun intended) with candelabras, glassware, centerpieces, gold-footed urns and mercury glass votives. Also, most notable in the decor is the hanging cake chandelier; it's a real cake from Classic Cakes!
The out of the box design carried over into Jupiter and Juno and Ten:Thirteen Design's stationery collaboration with rainbow metallic white on white programs and glossy black-on-matte-black invitations. Add some glitter and shimmer and the stationery was just as pretty as the tablescapes!
The gorgeous bride was transformed twice throughout the shoot in two different gowns and two different hairstyles. Both dresses were edgy and sexy, which was the exact look that Sarah was going for. Stylists from La Dolce Salon transitioned the model from a bride with an updo to a bride with an soft natural look. Her makeup for the ceremony part of the shoot was softer before transitioning to a sultry look for the darker reception. Makeup colors included raspberry tones, deep plumbs and gold highlights. Extra emphasis was put on the model's lovely eyes, especially during the reception when her eyes featured a smudged eyeliner look.
