Break out your maps and get ready for your next road trip! You'll definitely want to check out this local Midwest city that was entered into our Best Midwest Wedding City 2020 Contest. Every delightful destination that was nominated brings its own down-home charm that you won't find anywhere else. And don't just take it from us! Read on to see why Ally and Lou picked Traverse City, Michigan to tie the knot.
How did you know Traverse City was where you and Lou wanted to tie the knot?
"My brother was a deckhand on The Manitou, the tallship on which we eventually got married. We took a tour on the ship and loved it so much that when we were thinking about unique wedding venues a few years later, it seemed like a perfect idea. We loved Traverse City as well–a small but picturesque city on Lake Michigan, full of cool restaurants, bars, shops and scenery. In the end it made for a perfect day."
Did you use any local features in your wedding?
"Yes! In addition to the ceremony being on the tallship Manitou, we held our reception at The Little Fleet, a local bar featuring an amazing selection of diverse and delicious food trucks and an indoor/outdoor dining area. We also had our rehearsal dinner at The Franklin, a great restaurant in downtown Traverse City."
What would you tell couples who are looking to get married in Traverse City?
"Traverse City has a beautiful waterfront (great for pictures!), cool, creative local businesses and amazing food. Also, if vineyards are your thing, Traverse City is the place for you."
