A Romantic Garden Celebration in Goshen: The Real Wedding of Kyah and Michael Woodruff

After matching and chatting on a dating app, Kyah and Michael decided to go on an in-person date. They met at a cool coffee shop and hit it off immediately! When it came time for Michael to propose, he took Kyah on a picnic to her favorite park. "I was completely surprised!" Kyah admits.

Like many brides, Kyah decided she wanted to incorporate some D.I.Y. details in her wedding. However, unlike most brides, Kyah decided she wanted to make her dress from scratch! "I made my dress! I designed it, patterned it and constructed it entirely on my own," Kyah shares. "When my husband and I started dating, I knew he was the one, so I decided that I was going to learn how to make and design dresses so that I could make my wedding dress." Nearly a year of hard work later, Kyah had a full wedding dress just three days before her wedding! The gown turned out absolutely stunning and has so much meaning since Kyah constructed it with her own hands.

Kyah went to Pinterest to help plan her wedding. Kyah explains, "I had been dreaming about my wedding since I was a little girl so I knew exactly what I wanted." Inspired by her grandparents’ magnificent garden, Kyah envisioned a wedding that felt as though she and Michael had stepped into a space lovingly cultivated over time. They settled on lots of pastel and spring-inspired colors and florals to help bring their garden theme to life!

With the theme in mind, Kyah and Michael wanted a vendor team that would help them curate the wedding of their dreams. They found the perfect venue with plenty of natural lighting to truly give the feeling of a warm spring day. With plenty of elegant details, the venue needed little additional decor! They also used recommendations and reviews to select the rest of their vendors. And their photographer had photographed her oldest sister's wedding as well!

What We Love

On top of learning how to make a dress, Kyah also learned how to do manicures so she could do her own nails for her wedding. However, one of the most impactful things was the journey that Kyah and Michael took together. "Before our wedding, my husband and I learned to garden and started a flower garden together," Kyah gushes, "We got to use lots of the flowers we grew in our wedding florals. This was extra special to me because it brought back memories of when my grandfather was still alive and he and my grandmother had the most beautiful, magical flower garden." Since the whole wedding theme was in homage to her grandparents' garden, it only seems fitting that they would practice the same quality time together in growing something else with love!

Advice from the Couple

Kyah advises, "My husband and I had a very short engagement (4 months). While I wouldn't change anything, I would also advise other couples to have longer engagements because it was very stressful (but worth it)!"
