In many Indiana towns, Saturdays are synonymous with Port-a-Pit Chicken. Drive downtown and you’ll likely smell the distinctive, mouthwatering Nelson’s chicken wafting your way. Nelson’s Catering & Fundraising has been feeding and supporting people in Indiana and Michigan for more than 45 years. In addition to their delicious food, Nelson’s has a brand new venue to wow Midwest wedding guests. The Blue Teal is a newly constructed event center showcasing a stone fireplace, vaulted ceilings with modernized chandeliers and a private courtyard that is perfect for any ceremony or cocktail hour.
Our recent WeddingDay Exclusive Style Shoot at The Blue Teal brought together a stellar team to showcase the beautiful new space. Michelle Nikitaras from Unveiled Weddings & Events designed a boho chic shoot with rich fall colors to highlight the rustic elegance. “This venue was something out of a bride’s rustic imagination with the stunning stone fireplace and lovely outdoor patio,” Michelle says. In addition to the Cypress Room and private patio, the venue boasts a stylish bridal suite, lovingly nicknamed by our team the “she shed.” From the outside, the suite looks like a little house, complete with a sweet front porch. Inside, you find walls of well-lit mirrors for ample hair and makeup space, a chic dressing area and plush seating for the bridal party to sip champagne while waiting for the ceremony to begin. Krista Griffey, Wedding & Event Specialist for Nelson’s Catering, described the inspiration for the darling space. “The incredible bridal suite has a dedicated hair and makeup station, oversized mirrors, a place to hang dresses and lounge furniture. Not only is it a comfortable place to relax before you walk down the aisle, it’s adorable in photos!”
To create the Boho Chic dream wedding, the team chose rich fall colored linens with touches of turquoise to add a different dimension to the palette. The Urban Petal did a great job keeping in line with the color palette and theme, incorporating chic Quicksand roses with striking shapes and rich colors for the perfect fall florals. Simply Seeking Photography captured the alluring images, and Logan Hoffman Film & Photo provided videography for the day, even flying a drone above the venue for aerial shots!
Outside the Cypress Room, Unveiled Weddings created a unique altar feature for the outdoor ceremony space, blending bohemian macrame with sparkling sequins to catch the light. Sweet-Em’s Cake Shoppe designed a showstopping cake with incredible detail that mimicked the woven wall hanging.
A shoot at Nelson’s Blue Teal venue wouldn’t be complete without food provided by Nelson’s Catering, which is onsite, making for easy plating and service. Nelson’s is also willing to travel, offering their Port-a-Pit and so much more, like stuffed chicken with cranberry and brie and slow roasted prime rib.
This shoot has us thinking fall--and craving chicken! What’s most inspiring about this boho chic shoot is the one-of-a-kind take on rustic bohemian flair.
“As always, Unveiled tries to stay away from trends,” Michelle said. “You have to choose what you like and what is timeless for you on your big day. The photos turned out so beautiful and we couldn’t have asked for a better day.”
