The Wedding of Shannon and Daniel Ryan: A South Bend Greenhouse Wedding

Some meetings are meant to be—and Shannon and Daniel’s first meeting shows us that fate is real. Shannon says, “Dan and I met on vacation but were from the same town. Dan was on his guy trip to St. Pete Beach and I was down visiting my friend. We met my first night in town–Dan was leaving a bar and I was walking in. Dan was with a mutual friend that I had known from working at a bar. I stopped to talk with the mutual friend and the rest was history. Dan and I became best friends.”

After dating for a bit, Shannon and Daniel went on their annual holiday trip to Chicago where Daniel popped the question. Shannon says, “We went to the Christkindl Markt and had gotten some different types of German foods to try when Dan got down on one knee in the market and asked if I would marry him. I said yes, of course!”

After saying yes, the planning started. Shannon and Daniel selected one of South Bend’s newest venues—The Armory. She notes, “We picked The Armory in South Bend for the reception because it was a special place to me as a kid. As a kid, I played River City basketball on Saturdays at the Armory when it was the old Newman Center.  I knew I had to have my wedding there once I heard it was remodeled."

Shannon had a hard time finding her dress at first. She could not find a salon that had a wide enough selection for her tastes. Luckily, she found Something Blue Bridal. She says, “We went there and all I could think was ‘WOW.’ They had the best selection of dresses I had ever seen. It was so hard to choose. I could have spent hours in the store.”

What we love

We love that Shannon upcycled many items for her wedding! She says, “I think the unique touches of my wedding were all the decorations that were used were from Goodwill but were redesigned. I used rose gold and chrome spray paint to remake old, outdated decor. This saved tons of money! I also used old picture frames to make signs that were found at Goodwill.”

How she used WeddingDay Magazine

We love that Shannon used WeddingDay as a source of inspiration while planning. She notes, “I used WeddingDay Magazine when I first got engaged! This was my starting point to see all vendors in this area! The magazine is in most stores so it was easy to pick up and take home to read.”
