In Christine Grigg’s words, she and her husband first met in the most “perfect place to fall in love”- Greece - that is! The couple met while in the Air Force and Scott later proposed to Christine at home, another perfect setting for Christine, after a “foiled” proposal attempt in New York City (we can only guess lol!). The couple knew they wanted  a short engagement so they began the planning process right away, beginning with a hunt for the right venue. “We knew that we wanted a wedding with our closest family and friends and we wanted a venue that was convenient for our guests,” Christine says. “That’s why we chose The Alexander Hotel. Not only do we live next door, but we knew our guests would love having most of the wedding weekend events in one place.  We also knew that we wanted a FUN atmosphere – lots of hugs, happy tears, laughs, and dancing!” Another reason the couple chose the venue? The hotel was all-inclusive.  “We had the rehearsal, ceremony, reception and after party all at the hotel and 95% of our guests stayed there.  Lastly, the gallery was the perfect size for our 60-person wedding.  It was intimate and unique at the same time,” Christine says.

To achieve the rest their vision, the couple knew that researching vendors was important. They found Kate Shaw Makeup and JT Miner with Lights Out Entertainment.  Christine says, “My make-up artist was a recommendation and she was PERFECT!  Our DJ had great reviews and he was a highlight of our wedding planning.  We researched and made a lot of cold calls and chose vendors on a combination of reviews, price and personal connection.  They were all fantastic!” Scott also proved helpful in this arena. She says, “My husband is an excel wizard! He kept track of EVERYTHING via the wedding planner document he created: addresses, schedules, table assignments, gifts, EVERYTHING!”

We love that Christine also stayed true to her personal preferences and the vision she had in mind. “I’d like to think with age comes wisdom,” she says,  The upside of getting married in your 30s is that you pretty much know your style.  I looked to Pinterest, magazines and blogs but the looks I searched were always consistent with my personal style.” In terms of the colors, she says, “I had a color palette I’d been carrying around with me forever.  I wanted neutral tones, metallic and a touch of color for the winter season.  Sounds random but I think it came together nicely.” To complete the bride’s look, nothing was more important than her dress, which she found at Marie Gabriel Couture in Indianapolis. She says, “I saw it online and called around for a shop that had it.  I tried on a few dresses, mostly from the same designer, but I knew it was the one after a bit of deliberation.  I knew I wanted beading, long sleeves and something different.  I also wanted something I could dance in.  I really liked another dress by the same designer, but the skirt was a little too full and would have been difficult to move around in.  The wedding dress was the biggest singular cost of the wedding, but it was totally worth it – I’d wear it everyday if I could!

Photography also was a key component of the day. After some deliberation, the couple opted to for an engagement session which helped the couple zero in on their style. “Since we had a short engagement and weren’t sending out save the dates, we toyed with not having the engagement session. DO IT!  Most of the time it is included in the wedding package and it’s the time for you and photographer to figure out what you’re looking for during your wedding,” Christine says. “In our case, we had an initial photographer but realized after our engagement shoot that our styles simply weren’t aligned.  After a lot of consideration, we decided to search for another photographer and we found Sami Renee Photography through a recommendation.  That was perhaps the best decision we made.  We LOVE the engagement and wedding pictures her and her assistant Katie took – they are truly beautiful.”

For those of you who have the DYI gene, you will be happy to note that most of the decorations came from the couple’s own home. Christine says, “I’ve collected a lot of trinkets over the years.  A fun craft we did together was our name cards – we saved a lot of money on that one! We ordered the bridal bouquets, halos and ceremony backdrop from our florist (JP Parker Flowers).  However, we ordered our table garland, cake flowers and flower petals from an online company called Bloominous.  I worked with an awesome lady (Feyon) and it saved us a ton of money!”

The flowers included Burgundy dahlias, blush sahara roses, dark blue viburnum berries, white dahlias, seeded eucalyptus, blue thistle and dusty miller.

the details

“There were a lot special touches that will always be great memories for us,” explains Christine.  “My grandparents live in Boston and unfortunately the trip to Indianapolis was too taxing for them.  I had a picture of them from their wedding day in my bouquet.  We also had our bridal party come out to different iconic songs (e.g. Rocky, Top Gun, Dirty Dancing) and it was fun to watch them come up with their entrances.  Scott and I came into the reception on a luggage cart to the theme some of ‘Titanic’ and it was hilarious!  We provided our guests with personalized hangover kits (Etsy) that our guest really appreciated; I really liked how they looked on the place settings.  We also had a trivia game at the end of dinner to liven things back up and it was awesome – we have some really competitive friends.”

what we love

This fun-loving couple used a great venue and many special touches to personalize their day. When asked about what her guests will remember about the day, Christine says, “I think they’ll remember our reception entrance for sure!  We also danced to Citizen Cope’s ‘Sideways’ and some of our guests commented on the unique song choice.  Many of our guests are active duty military and/or Veterans and we loved having our wedding during Veteran’s Day weekend.  Hopefully they remember how much excitement we had for the day and how appreciative we were to share the day with our guests.” We hope they do as well! Their wedding hashtag was #gettinggriggywithit, after all!
