Kristen and Luke met in college, and after much encouragement from their friends, decided to give dating a shot. When they hit it off, it was a dream come true! To keep their proposal low-key, Luke popped the question at home while the couple was in their pajamas.
Kristen took a weekend with her mother and sister to go “exploration dress shopping,” before returning to the same shops a few weeks later to seriously look for her dress. “I went in thinking I knew the shape that would be best for my body type, but also tried on some out-of-the-box dresses for fun!” Kristen gushes. We love the timeless look she went for!
Because Kristen and Luke had been together for seven years, they didn’t see the need to rush to get to the “I dos.” Kristen worked with her Maid of Honor to help hone-in her ideas. “All we knew is that we wanted to be surrounded by all of our incredible, loving and supportive family and friends,” she says. “Other than that, we made it up as we went along!”
What we love
This pair chose not to focus on the details of the day and instead on the loved ones around them. Even their furry friends made a “showing.” Kristen explains, “We got a large cardboard cutout of our dog’s face as a joke, so he could dance the night away with us even though there are no animals allowed in the Henry Ford Museum.”
Advice from the couple
Kristen wants to remind future brides that planning a wedding is a team effort, and not all decisions have to be made on your own. “At times it felt like people put all of the pressure on me as the bride to make all of the decisions, but that’s just not how our dynamic works. If you want to work together, do it, and don’t let people tell you otherwise. It is not just the bride’s day - it is the couple’s day!”
