Kari and Zeke met at Ball State University where she was attending school. Although Zeke didn’t actually attend Ball State, he was often visiting his two cousins at the university. Kari says, "We knew of each other at that time because we were from the same county but also earlier that summer I had tried setting up my maid of honor with Zeke. I heard he was a great guy. He was cute. Perfect for my best friend, but little did I realize I would be dating him a year later. We started talking at Ball State and the rest is history!" Kari had always told Zeke that she wanted to graduate from nursing school before they got engaged and he took that to heart. She explains, "It was 10 minutes after I graduated from Ball State when Zeke got down on one knee under the Bell Tower on campus and proposed. I had no idea that he was going to propose within 10 minutes after I finished school. I was thinking a couple months. I without a doubt said 'yes' and our wedding planning began!"
The couple started their planning by selecting a date that matched the schedule of both them and their photographer, Erin Photography (someone they just knew had to capture their day!). With a short engagement in mind, the couple selected a spring date and began booking their other vendors.
The couple gained much of their inspiration from their stunning venue, The White Rose Event Center. Kari says, "Our venue was one of the most beautiful buildings you’ve ever seen with so much character. It was so easy to decorate." The aspects that drew them to this industrial space included the brick, white tones, beautiful bar with mirror, large doors that open to the outdoors, soft lighting, open concept and old railroad arches along the back of the property (to name a few!). "I could go on and on about the venue. It is to die for."
We love that Kari and Zeke were not afraid to change things up. She explains, "We had our guests eat before we arrived to the reception. We decided our least favorite part about a wedding was waiting for the wedding party to arrive, only to wait 45 minutes longer for your table to be called. While we enjoyed our time on the bus with our wedding party, guests made their way through the food line and we ate when we got there. It worked so great and kept the flow going!"
This couple's biggest advice included notes on time management and scheduling techniques. They say, "Get things done early. It's never too early to plan and get things done. The week of the wedding was actually quite relaxing due to the amount of things we did ahead of time." They add, "Make lists! Lists are great when you are trying to remember 1,000 things to do. They also keep you as a couple on the same page." Lastly, they note, "Do your wedding how you want it to be done and not what you think others want done. Ultimately, it is your day!"
