You’ll feel the flower power in this submission to our 2020 Style Shoot Design Contest! Kim Andert of Raven's Wing Hats and Kayla Holdread of Weeping Willow Photography, worked together to organize this sustainable wedding for the everyday couple. “Not every couple dreams of a lavish wedding,” Kim says. “It was important to our vision of sustainability that we showcase a small wedding, incorporating as many vintage, gently used and repurposed items as possible.” This intimate ceremony promises to wow any D.I.Y. couple!
Because the venue featured many vibrant natural flowers, the team chose Classic Blue, the 2020 Pantone Color of the Year, as an accent color. From subtle blue thistles peeking out of the tablescape decor to the sharp Classic Blue suit, these blues give a refreshing contrast to the surrounding sunflowers. Topped off with rented flatware from Burns Special Events, this team made their vintage decor set pop!
This barn venue speaks to the vintage theme of this shoot. “The style of the farm and field had a very relaxed feel; informal but classic,” Kim notes. These gorgeous sunset shots, captured by Weeping Willow Photography, truly take our breath away!
Kim wanted to utilize vintage bridal wear while also highlighting the model’s curvy figure. By combining a silk dressing gown from the ‘30s and a skirt from the ‘50s, these two historical pieces create one unique look! “It was elegant enough in look to be bridal, yet the lines were simple which worked well in the outdoor setting,” Kim explains. The romantic look is topped off with a classic updo and makeup that highlights this bride’s glowing natural beauty.
A cake bursting with flowers is the crowning point of this shoot. “The idea of using flowers that look as though they are bursting right out of the cake seemed just what Mother Nature would do if she were a baker!” Kim gushes. With six layers of delicious white cake surrounded by blooms and greenery, this confection is a natural delight to behold!
