Have you heard of Meet Cupid—for campus? Jen and Spencer met on their college campus through a campus-specific dating app. They had seen each other around on the school grounds, but swiped right on the app leading into a future of love!
Spencer popped the question by playing it cool—Jen says he knelt down and pretended to tie his shoe before proposing! We love a memorable proposal, especially one that leaves us with a smile!
Jennifer says that she immediately went to Pinterest and wedding planning websites to help imagine what her big day might be like. While she didn't have any specific ideas at first, Jennifer knew she wanted to have a lot of flowers! She admits that because they were on a budget, she had to get creative with how the planning process went. “It took me a little bit of research to figure out how to translate what kind of wedding we wanted for us and how to make it happen on our budget,” Jennifer explains. “We also took on second jobs as soon as possible because we knew we would be paying for our wedding mostly on our own. We knew that would be a key starting point before much else could be started.” We love that this couple came prepared to do whatever it takes to make their dream come true!
They say opposites attract, which is exactly what happened when Jennifer tried on her dress! “In my head, I imagined myself in something more sheath-like and with sleeves. For the sake of the experience, I tried on a few different styles and the dress I chose was pretty opposite of what I originally envisioned. I felt so confident when I tried it on. I left the store that day without purchasing a dress because I was waiting to try it on for my parents, but even before I bought it, I referred to it as ‘my dress’ from the second I took it off.”
Jennifer says she was inspired by industrial weddings. She wanted something simple and minimalistic. “I love the look of exposed brick and pipes paired with décor that was clean and simple.” The simple style was a great way to go—have you seen that gorgeous minimalistic table layout? We love those rental items from A Classic Party Rental!
When it came to vendors, the couple already had a few ideas in mind because of their connections and day-to-day interactions in the community. Jennifer recalls, “Our photographer was a previous coworker of ours before she took on wedding photography full-time. Our wedding coordinator was also a good friend that we knew from mutual friends. Our rockstar DJ was a previous ‘regular’ of mine from my waitressing days. All of them had amazing testimonies and reviews online, to boot!” The couple chose the bakery for their cake because it’s a hot spot for them to stop by after work and grab a treat on their way home! We love that they added in little touches of their everyday lives into their special day!
What we love
This couple decided to equally take on the tradition of having something blue—earrings for the bride, and cuff links for the groom. There were unique touches throughout the wedding, too, from Jennifer’s youngest brother being the ‘flower guy,’ to the guests signing a Monopoly board and the cake toppers being personalized vinyl figures. “They look like us in our wedding dress and suit because we love to collect Funko! Pops,” Jennifer says.
Advice from the couple
While the planning process can be stressful, Jennifer says not to get worked up and enjoy the time getting ready for the most beautiful day of your life. She urges other couples to spend time and money investing in a good wedding coordinator. She explains, “Even on a budget, we spent a very pretty penny and countless hours of planning into our wedding, and I’m positive it would not have been as worth it to me if we didn’t have one to put it all together when it really counted.”
