When it comes to weddings, there are no tiny details. Now, this isn't to say that every detail is huge (don't stress!), but it is to say that each detail deserves some thought so that each contributing design element fits perfectly into your wedding. One detail that may seem pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things is table numbers. Because, really, who is going to be scrutinizing your table numbers of all things? First of all – while it is important to keep your guests in mind during your planning process, your wedding is for you so design it as you please! If someone is there to scrutinize, they're kind of missing the whole purpose of the day so pay no mind. Second – table numbers are more multipurpose than you may think. “Table numbers” don't even have to be numbers at all. Here are some ways to turn simple table markers into conversation starters!

1. Tell a Story

Instead of using actual numbers to mark the guest tables at your reception, take this opportunity to tell some stories! This can be really fun for you in your planning, as well as for your guests at the reception. Create a title for each story and use these titles to 'name' your tables. You could also use the dates of important events in your lives to mark theses spots. You can take your guests chronologically through your lives together by sharing the story of how you first met at 'table 1' and continuing from there. Your guests will have fun learning more about you through stories they may not have heard before, without you having to take the time on your big day to tell and retell them.

2. Take a Trip

Travel! Who doesn't love it? Mark your guest tables with places that are significant to you for one reason or another. These can be places you've traveled together, favorite cities, family vacation destinations, restaurants, the universities you attended, homes of your favorite sports teams – really any location works as long as it bears meaning. Place these names on the tables and include a little blurb as to why they are important to you. You can also include photos of you and your fiance at these places to add an extra personal touch.

3. Creative Classics

Don't get me wrong – I love traditional table numbers as well. There are so many fun ways to jazz these up according to your overall design. Use glittered, free standing numbers for a glam wedding; knotted rope numbers for a nautical theme; carve them into wooden discs or paint them onto mason jars or pottery for a more rustic feel; galvanized buckets, picture frames, apothecary jars and even candles can be used a table markers. Use elements that will be easily incorporated with your tablescapes and overall design aesthetic.
