After a brief split after freshman year of high school, Melissa and Colton were able to rekindle their relationship during their junior year. Despite attending different colleges for one year, they have been together for almost seven years now. On Melissa's dream trip to Utah, Colton proposed during their last hike at Zion National Park!
"I had been planning my wedding since I was in sixth grade—no exaggeration, I have had a Pinterest board all of these years and would always add and remove things through the years," Melissa admits. Despite the passing years, Melissa always wanted the colors red and gold incorporated in her wedding. Those colors were what set her sights on fall or winter. Her preparedness made planning very easy, and she even utilized an Excel spreadsheet to keep everything on schedule!
Like many things in the planning process, the venue was easy to find with a bit of research. "We wanted a place that combined my husband's 'rustic' view and my 'soft romantic' view of our wedding," Melissa explains. "After we saw photos of Waldenwoods, it seemed perfect for us but we wanted to see it in-person to confirm. As soon as we did our tour, we signed the paperwork that day to have our wedding there and decided to not look any further." The rest of her vendors came through family and friend connections or good reviews online.
Almost every girl dreams of what her wedding dress will look like, but Melissa got a bit of a head start. Melissa shares, "I had gone dress shopping with my sister almost ten years ago and saw someone come out of the dressing room in a trumpet-styled lace dress and knew immediately that was the type of dress I would end up in—and it was." Even though Melissa knew this in her heart, she still tried on plenty of styles to make sure it was the one for her. We think she looks gorgeous in her simple yet elegant gown. We also love how stunning she looks in the photos captured by Penny Ralene Photography!
What We Love
The Plummers decided to have a horse-drawn carriage at their wedding to amp up the romantic side of the theme. "It was so nice to have the one-on-one time together in the carriage away from everything to soak it all in," Melissa gushes. "We also finished our carriage ride early and
gave our guests the option to go take a photo in the carriage."
Advice from the Couple
Melissa says, "Advice I would give other couples would be to not overthink your choices, trust your vendors, only worry about your opinion and don’t be afraid to speak up for yourself. Enjoy the day and take it all in as best you can and whatever happens, will happen. Once
the day is here, it is out of your hands and you should just enjoy the day as you worked so hard to plan it."
