Rhian and Danny first saw each other in a parking lot after Danny’s high school baseball game. Smitten at first sight, Danny asked a friend for Rhian’s number and texted her right away. “We talked every single day and hung out all summer before we become boyfriend and girlfriend,” says Rhian. “We never broke apart since!”
A Christmas Eve visit to Brookfield Zoo was a tradition for the pair ever since they started dating. After moving back home to Chicago from New York the day before Christmas Eve, the two were still able to make it to the zoo the next day. “He waited until the end of our trip at the zoo and asked someone to take a picture of us in front of the giant Christmas tree,” says Rhian. “Then he proposed, and the person got it all on video and took many photos!”
Freshly engaged, Rhian already had her Pinterest board in place and a vision in mind but still did her due diligence in researching options before making any final decisions.
When it came to designing the cozy, intimate wedding to match their style and personality, the couple ended up D.I.Y.-ing almost everything. “We made the wooden guest board, place cards, menus, programs, table numbers, centerpieces, wedding arch, chair and aisle décor, card box, and maybe some more things I am forgetting!” says Rhian.
Even the centerpieces were D.I.Y. candle arrangements with fresh, silver dollar eucalyptus from the florist placed around. The bouquets featured ranunculus, dahlias, lots of greenery and garden roses.
Rhian found her dress at BHLDN and knew instantly when she found the one! “I could not stop staring at myself and did not want to ever take it off,” she says.
What We Love
Rhian says, “The officiant was my husband’s aunt and the photographer was my sister-in-law. It was so nice to have my family play a huge part in my big day and helping it to be so successful.”
