When Jacquelyn Genevieve Photography and Shivani Kothari of VaniKo Designs Weddings and Events decided to do a bridal style shoot at a horse farm they knew they may get a few raised eyebrows. However, the women saw the potential in the beautiful landscape. Shivani says, “Behind the barn was a gorgeous field of tall, untouched grass. Right away we knew we wanted majority of the photos out there. It fit the romantic, whimsy vibe.”
In order to fulfill their idea of an ethereal, soft style, the pair directed the team towards a subtle palette with feminine flair. “We chose pink because it was soft, feminine and naturally complemented the lush, natural tones found in greenery,” says Shivani. “We also picked one color and decided to play with different shades to create a gradient. We wanted to do something different than the traditional 2-3 wedding color palette.”
The decor items were carefully selected to create a fairytale-like setting. They included gold accent vases, flatware and chargers as well as blush napkins. Shivani adds, “Firefly Premier Events provided us with the tables, chairs and beautiful goblets. Rosemarine Textiles is a sustainable textile studio based in Detroit, Michigan. She makes hand-torn silk ribbons, table runners and napkins using the rich, complex colors of plant-based dyes. Each piece is made by hand in her studio mindfully with processes that take many days to achieve the perfect color.”
The bridal look was perfectly designed to match the overall theme. In efforts to keep the look natural, the bride's hair was lightly curled and she was given an airy makeup look. As for the dress, Shivani says, “The dress was actually the base of the entire shoot! Jacquelyn found it in a Facebook group for sale and knew right away she wanted to use it for a styled shoot. The long, lace sleeves added a romantic, playful touch and the soft train seemed so fitting to have a horse along for the ride, too.”
The final touches on the shoot were the stationery suite and cake. A three-tiered, all white cake from Sweet Bree’s with touches of florals was perfect for a simple, earthy vibe. And the faded, pink stationery with whimsical lettering from Invitations by Caitlin captured the girly, boho mood perfectly.
