A Woodland Wonder Style Shoot

Kelly Kennedy Rex of All Buttoned Up Events collaborated with Annette Hoffman from Nettie Marie Photography on a woodland style shoot of their dreams. “Annette had the vision to give it an English flair, and I had the idea of bringing in storybook characters,” Kelly says. “We just took all of our ideas and went from there!”

When Annette found Briar Barns, it offered the perfect, diverse locations with elements such as the woods, barn, field and ceremony site. “We wanted it to feel like we were literally in the middle of nowhere with the storybook element. The other features of the venue, 100 year old barn etc. were bonuses!” Kelly says. While moving all the furniture pieces and ceremony logs into place wasn’t easy, the beautiful vision that resulted was worth every ounce of the team's effort.

 

The rich jewel tones, infusion of nature and creative use of fruit, mushrooms and rich greens brought the woodland-inspired palette to life. The team also incorporated old books they found in thrift shops and covered them in moss. The unique runner was also made from the same books while polished rocks were brought to life with calligraphy. Kelly explains, “We wanted something innovative and not done before.”

 

When it came to finding the perfect two-piece, lace vintage dress, the team reached out to LAMB Bride owner, Alyssa McElheny, as she had an amazing collection of vintage gowns. Another perfect touch were the mini cakes. “Amy at Baked by Amy is a culinary genius,” Kelly says. “We knew we wanted something different, and she made these amazing mini cakes for each ‘guest.’ It made the design so personal, and they were the perfect topper to the vintage china.”

 

The stationery was one of the last elements the team selected. “I found the design through Etsy once everything was set in place, and it was literally perfect for the rest of the shoot,” Kelly explains. “The owner sent me the files and we had it all printed locally.”
