When Lori and Annie of Lori Anne Weddings and Events paired up with Stacy of the Rusted Window to submit to our 2019 Style Shoot Design Contest, they knew they wanted to do more than just shoot a typical wedding. They selected 'The Elements' from our list of themes and the results are breathtaking! “The elements of water and fire spoke to us,” says the team. “The idea started as a lava flow, created out of floral, cascading into an ocean, and morphed into a monochromatic, cohesive, flowing, aquatic work of art.” The overall use of the element of water made this shoot a stunning finalist!

The model's natural look was specifically chosen to match a few trends. Hair stylist Abby notes, “I wanted it to be a very relaxed lived-in look. Braids, twists and intricate loops will never go away when it comes to bridal hair. It has been trending over the last few years, and this really captured the lived-in look.”

The team chose the Conrad Indianapolis as a venue for the pool. For the shoot, the team had to shut down the pool of this very popular hotel for 10 hours! They note, “We wanted our art to be among some of the greats. In order to do this, we felt the need to bring in an aspiring local artist. He was able to hand paint a custom 30’ backdrop for the shoot. From day one, our style has been an artistic approach to the modern wedding.” That backdrop sure does make a splash!

An obvious show-stopping part of this shoot is the floating cake. Lori and Annie admit that using chlorinated water created difficulties with the floral arrangements responding to the water. Not to mention somehow balancing a 30 pound wedding cake on that floral foam! “After a trial run at a home pool, we were confident we could do it,” they say. “But on the day of the shoot, when the saturated floral foam was on the float, the cake began to sink. We had to scoop out the middle of the circular floral foam to remove enough weight to make the cake float.” This team deserves a round of applause for quick thinking and ingenuity!

The bride in this shoot actually wore two dresses--one to take pictures in, the other to swim in! “We wanted to have a custom-made dip-dyed wedding dress for the shoot, and we wanted a dress that could go into a pool,” the team notes. They were wary of the dye fading out into the pool, so the dress that got wet was dye-free.

Other trends the team incorporated was the floating floral from the ceiling, but they went the extra mile to include floating floral in the water! “We chose to float floral in the pool because we have never seen anything like it done in the state of Indiana and wanted to be the first. We also included the 2019 Pantone Color of the Year, Living Coral.”

We want to jump right into this shoot!
