2021 Style Shoot Design Contest Submission: A Vintage Take on a Rainbow Theme in Lansing, Michigan

Sarah from Studio Wilde Floral wanted to create an intriguing style shoot in a unique venue and entered it in our 2021 Style Shoot Design Contest. With bright and beautiful flowers scattered around a warehouse, Sarah could see her vision coming to life and couldn’t wait to capture it!

Trying to reach her ideal clientele, Sarah wanted to include funky elements to the shoot to bring out the fun. The wedding dress was one of the most fun details of the shoot. “This took me HOURS of deliberation, research, back and forth and MANY inquiries,” Sarah shares. “The dress was white, fully-sequined, deep plunge v-neck with long draped sleeves.” Though it has more of a modern feel, this dress truly embodies the bold and ornate style that was born in the disco era.

The creative team used Illuminating, one of the 2021 Pantone Colors of the Year, in the style shoot to make the images pop. From the backdrop to the florals, you can find a little bit of yellow in most of the elements in this shoot. The juxtaposition of the florals with the grunge of the warehouse was exactly the look Sarah envisioned!

“I always had a dirty venue in mind—and this one was perfect,” Sarah raves. “I love putting beautiful things in ugly places.” However, the venue did come with its set of challenges. There was no electricity, running water, and the large garage doors wouldn’t open. So the team had to bring their own lighting and power source to be able to capture the beauty of this shoot. We think it turned out perfectly despite the obstacles the team had to overcome!

The focus of the shoot was florals. Sarah, being a florist, wanted to make this the most elaborate look she could. The flowers arrived just in the nick of time (the day before the shoot), so everything came together beautifully. The main flower used was a rose—which inspired the rosy palette for the shoot—but Sarah included other stunning florals, too. Carnations, stock, and locally-sourced eremurus were amongst the colorful florals. Sarah even added cannabis to the bouquets for a unique and non-traditional feel.
