When DJ and Brooke Fitzpatrick needed a reception venue to accommodate their 600+ guests and the stunning Palais Royale was already booked, the Executive Director at the nearby Morris Performing Arts Center had an idea.  Dennis Andres had seen a floor built over auditorium seats at other historic theaters and took part in something similar in his past, but on a smaller scale.

It took less than 12 hours for a crew of about 20 from a staging company in Grand Rapids to install the floor over the seats at the Morris.

Watch this YouTube video of the floor being built.  It's really cool to see how they did it!  The video was shot and edited by Grass Roots Media.

The Fitzpatrick’s wedding reception was the first time a floor had ever been built over the auditorium seats at the 89-year-old Morris Performing Arts Center, but the hope is the community will embrace it as an option for future weddings, social gatherings and trade shows.

We'll have the Fitzpatrick's full wedding story and see some awesome photos of the stage being built in our Winter 2011 issue, on stands January 7!
