Have you ever dreamed of having your wedding in your backyard? Photographer Beth of Beth Waterman Photography says that she was inspired by her Hoosier farm upbringing to create a shoot that's both modern and earthy—in her own backyard! Beth notes, “I knew I wanted it to look like an elopement that the family members all contributed to, so we used bits and pieces of family flatware & dishes. We tied that in with awesome Goodwill finds and my own 1966 Ford that fit the day perfectly.” We love all those sweet details of this shoot! Check it out!

With bare feet, lace, free-flowing hair and unique groomswear, this shoot has a peak boho style. We love how relaxed this shoot feels while maintaining a dreamy sense of elegance!

This color palette is dreamy and nostalgic. The team chose these colors to reminisce on the end of summer, while maintaining the “dried-out look” of the Midwest. Beth explains, “We chose to use a big mix of dried florals in earth tones. I wanted it to have that late summer/early fall look and that we would need to tie in lots of texture so we brought in dried grasses as well.”

With no rentals, this shoot takes on a whole new level of personality and sentiment. Beth says that every piece used in the shoot was either something she personally owned or something family-owned to create an intimate Midwest vibe. We love her creativity!

How often have we had a homemade Bundt cake that’s made our mouths water? Beth says that she added a personal touch to this shoot by making the cake herself—from a secret recipe! She reveals, “The cake is actually my own personal, top-secret spice cake recipe that I made for my own wedding years ago. It's always a huge hit. Bundt cakes are so in right now and so adorably shaped. It also helped to tie in that homemade, 'down on the farm' look.”

The lacework on the dress is to die for! Beth says that she bought the dress on a whim in the winter from Amazon. We love that she found a use for it in this shoot! The team went with a golden style with the bride. Beth notes, “We chose to leave her hair down to suit the boho style and show off the black/green color she has in her hair. That was combined with golden makeup tones with touches of pink to make her shine.”

And that custom suit for the groom has us swooning!

Using her home as a studio was no easy task. Beth explains that the harsh evening light and dealing with horse flies was hard to cope with—ouch! But we’re so glad this team pushed through the pain and gave us this beautiful shoot. “I loved being able to take our time with everything and really get the shots we wanted,” Beth says. “I also enjoyed working with my husband to build the table that we used, and really bringing it around as a family event.”
