A Beautiful Summer Celebration for a Volleyball-Loving Couple: The Real Wedding of Katy and Ashton Faramelli

Photos ByHeather Sherrill Photography

Katy and her friends decided to play volleyball one night and, after a joking quip at fellow volleyball players, she ended up meeting the love of her life, Ashton. On a special trip to the Christmas tree farm that Katy's family had gone to for years, Ashton decided to propose. When they gathered around to take a family photo, Ashton got down on one knee!

The happy couple immediately set their sights on finding a venue. They knew they wanted a summer wedding in Indianapolis since that's where they live. After landing on August for their date, everything started to fall into place. "I signed up for a bridal show and my mom attended. It was at the Ritz Charles, and we received more information on their different venues, and I fell in love with the Lindley Farmstead at Chatham Hills," Ashton gushes. "The more I looked at it, I HAD TO HAVE IT!"

"I was never the type that dreamed about her wedding and knew all the details," Katy admits. "The only thing I knew was I wanted in my wedding and the reception to be at a rustic barn." Pinterest was one of the best tools Katy used. Though she tried a wedding planning book, it made Katy more stressed. All of the vendors came from recommendations from friends or family or the couple stumbled upon them, like seeing Heather Sherrill's work at the Ritz's bridal show. Katy used our website to find transportation but wishes she would've used it to find more of her vendors!

Katy went into dress shopping with a designer in mind but walked out with something else! Knowing the style that she wanted, Katy explained it to the bridal shop and let them pull some dresses for her. "The dress I picked was the first one I tried on and I immediately felt 'the
one' feeling," Katy raves. "But I thought it was too good to be true, so I tried four more dresses and went back to the first and said 'yes' to the dress!" We think the one she chose is gorgeous. Just look at that lace detailing!

What we Love

Unfortunately, Katy's father suffered a stroke and has dealt with some lingering issues from it. Luckily, Katy's two brothers were ready to step in and make her day as memorable as possible. "What made it special to me was that my brothers were able to walk me down the aisle, then
my dad was able to stand and give me away to Ashton," Katy shares. One of her brothers also helped Katy's dad stand so he could have his first dance with his only daughter.

Advice from the Couple

"Take the time to be with each other for a while. All that went through my mind was 'okay, now that this is done, this is the next step' and then it kept going. I wouldn't stop thinking about the wedding plans, so take time to just be with each other, don't talk about the wedding or the payments just for one dinner–be in the moment," Katy advises. "One last piece: don't be afraid to ask for help–bridesmaids, family members, friends and even the groom. The more help you have, the smoother it goes!"
