Born out of her love for a three-day glamping trip she and her husband took, Irene Wood decided to open The Fields of Michigan when she returned home and couldn’t find a similar experience in the area. The main goal Irene set out to accomplish was to create a location that provided an experience unlike any other around, so when people started approaching Irene about using her space for a wedding venue, she was more than happy to help them curate an exclusive day that catered to them as a couple! We sat down with Irene to learn more about the wedding experience at South Haven, Michigan's gem, The Fields of Michigan.

The Fields of Michigan has a unique charm different than anywhere else around. What attracts couples to your location (for a wedding or an overnight getaway)? What is unique about your property?

"I think what attracts guests to our location is, first, that their guests can make an entire weekend of their event. Second, we have a number of locations on site where couples can create micro events throughout the weekend: lavender field and blueberry field, nestled among the pines, down by the river and in the treehouse, for example. It allows them to curate an experience that is unique to them."

What makes The Fields of Michigan a memorable stay/wedding locale?

"Destination weddings and/or weekend weddings are BUSY! Arrivals, rehearsals, hair, makeup, rentals, etc. As such, one of the benefits of doing a wedding with us is you never have to leave the property!"

What benefits does a bridal party receive when booking a wedding with The Fields of Michigan?

"Exclusive use of the entire property. This makes it incredibly fun, as most couples fill their weekend with activities for their entire party. The Fields of Michigan offers axe throwing, bike riding, blueberry picking, cocktail classes, wine tasting, floral crown making and campfire cooking, to name a few."

Do you have preferred vendors that couples getting married at The Fields of Michigan must use?

"We only allow three weddings a year. Because this isn’t our core business and couples these days have such unique ideas and tastes for their wedding, we allow any vendor to be used that matches the couple's dreams. We, of course, can help provide a list of vendors that have already worked on site, but we really want to make sure that couples get exactly what they want, so we allow them to work with anyone that they have chemistry with."

What do you love most about working with couples who visit or get married at your property?

"Love is a special gift to witness. We’re just honored to be able to provide the space for them to share their lifelong commitment with family and friends."
