This Columbus, Ohio Ceremony has All the Elegant Details: The Real Wedding of Liz and Alex Bujenovic

Photos ByL.A.R Weddings

Liz and Alex met while living off-campus in the Saw Duplex while studying at Ohio State University. After moving to North Carolina, they decided to travel back to Ohio to spend Thanksgiving with their families. Alex asked Liz to take a walk around their alma mater to see what changed and so he could propose. Liz gushes, "We stopped on the Oval to take a picture of the library. As I was trying to capture the perfect photo, he was already down on one knee behind me."

"We started with researching venues in Columbus, Ohio. We knew we wanted to get married in the city where our relationship started. Both of our families are in Ohio, so it was an easy decision to marry in Columbus," Liz explains. The couple knew they wanted a venue that was classic and timeless, so their hearts were set on getting married at the Ohio Statehouse. Liz loved looking at photos from other couples' weddings at the Statehouse and couldn't wait for their big day!

Instagram and family/friend recommendations were the best inspirations to Liz. "Most of my inspiration came from Instagram. I would search various tags and then save photos of bridesmaid dresses, color schemes, florals, etc. I also used Pinterest but found Instagram to be the most helpful as those photos were more current," Liz raves. "My sister-in-law also provided recommendations for Columbus vendors as she works in fashion in Columbus." Her matron of honor also gifted Liz with a wedding planning book and her advice from her wedding in 2019, which helped Liz stay on a timeline. The biggest challenge for the happy couple was planning during a pandemic and trying to book with vendors who they couldn't meet in person.

Let's talk about the details! First, Liz's dress. Though she knew what she wanted in style and theme, Liz found herself hesitating when it came to selecting a dress. After visiting several bridal shops in both Ohio and North Carolina, Liz kept coming back to the same style of dress. The one she said "yes" to is absolutely stunning, especially when paired with those Badgley Mischka shoes! We also love that the couple was able to get together and D.I.Y. some of the details of their big day including the table number signs, the seating chart, and the card table design.

What We Love

Liz and Alex were able to bring memories from their college years together into their big day. They had donuts from a bakery they frequented as dessert, a friend from OSU officiated the wedding and they even took a photo with all their friends from college during the reception with "Hang on Sloopy" playing in the background!

Advice from the Couple

Liz advises, "Start early in the planning process! Vendors book up fast and to ensure you book the vendors you have your heart set on, start e-mailing and reaching out as soon as possible. By starting early, you will also find that you enjoy the process more. You will feel less stressed as you approach your wedding date. I would also recommend doing a first look. The day went by so fast that looking back now, I am so glad we had that moment together just us."
