An annual celebration for Mal and Dylana is to look at the first GIF interaction they had when they met on a dating app. "I proposed to her on her favorite bridge in Grand Rapids, which is where we first lived together. I planned a day in which we went around to all of our favorite places in Grand Rapids and took Polaroid pictures," Mal shares. They also came home with their dog, Fig!

Regarding the ring, Mal admits, "I was nervous at first because she had given me a wide range of styles to work with, but as soon as I saw the ring, I knew I had to snag it." She chose a pear-shaped salt and pepper diamond with a rose gold band. Dylana says it couldn't be more perfect.

Picking their engagement session photographer was easy for the couple since Lynzee is actually one of Mal's best friends. "I have known her since college and have watched her photography grow over the years. She will forever be my go-to photographer," Mal raves. Since the proposal was a surprise, both Mal and Dylana ended up wearing clothes they typically wear for the engagement session so the surprise wasn't ruined. We love the laid-back, authentic feel this created!

The happy couple isn't concerned with rushing into planning. They actually just packed up their lives and moved to Portland, Oregon, so they are busy settling into their new house. With COVID still impacting the world—and especially the world of weddings—they are willing to wait as long as needed to get the wedding they want. "Ideas are still changing and evolving, but I know it is going to be the best day of my life," Mal gushes.
