Part of the reason we adore barn weddings so much is because we rarely see the same thing twice. Brides and vendors alike continue to incorporate their own take on the traditional barn wedding by fusing elements from different styles, eras and personalities. Melissa Donnelly, owner of Mel Anne Photography in Michigan says she wanted to capture modern brides within a rustic setting. She loved the rustic feel of a barn venue, but also wanted to "glam" things up a bit with sparkle, copper and greenery. "I really wanted to highlight my ability to bring together a vision and capture the pure and honest love between two people," explains Melissa. "In my heart, I was picturing a light and vibrant atmosphere that was an equal mix of modern glam and rustic elegance."

"For any photographer, the first thing we look for is lighting. I would choose somewhere with beautiful, natural light over a scenic backdrop any day!" says Melissa. "However, this particular location offered both. Plus, it fit perfect with my 'rustic glam' vision." Melissa is talking about the private residence in Romeo, Michigan where she chose to have her style shoot. Because the owners have received an outpouring of positive feedback and compliments from this style shoot, they are considering renting it out for other events. Stay tuned!

To bring the rest of Melissa's vision together, she collaborated with Memorable Occasions by Bonnie to introduce lots of fresh greenery to the decor. Accents of vibrant garden roses were added to the bouquets and decor for colors and to reflect the rustic glam theme. Melissa says she wanted to be surrounded by color but wanted the rich colors to compliment the environment so she was careful to select details that would overpower or compete with the already gorgeous setting.

Once again taking direction from Memorable Occasions by Bonnie, the style shoot was brought to life through rentals like gold chairs, a banquet table, sparkly linens and drapery. Stationery was designed and provided by Invitations by Caitlin—the colors and style effortlessly matched the overall theme.

The bride, Angelica proved to be the perfect fit for the style shoot and an even better fit for the Pronovias gown, provided by Piera's Bridal Couture in Michigan. "Once I saw Angelica in the Pronovias gown, I knew THAT was THE dress," says Melissa. "From the lace to the fit to the confidence that radiated from Angelica, every detail was pure perfection."

Angelica went from model to bride through the efforts of Jennifer Martin Hair and Makeup and Shelby Life Spa. Her long hair was swept to the side while her eyes were played up with a smoky gray lid, bold false lashes, and a touch of mauve on her lips.

A Slice of Heaven Cakes designed a gorgeous, four-tiered cake that stole the spotlight!
