We think you’ll agree that summer and romance are two words that should always go together. Add an organic garden feel, a neutral palette and a little lace and you have us swooning! Erin Hannum Photography and Take A Seat Events along with the rest of their talented team put their creative minds together to create this stunning, wish-you-were-there scene.

The Whitney, located in downtown Detroit, offered the gorgeous garden area needed for this romantic, truly Michigan summer-inspired style shoot. What makes it even more exciting is, like some hidden green gems, you wouldn’t expect this gorgeously natural backdrop to exist right in the middle of the city.

Beautifully aligned with the neutral color palette, the bride’s simple, gray gown featured a romantic mix of lace and tulle, achieving the perfect romantic aesthetic. Jill Sollars added the fine finishes to the look, creating natural movement with loose waves and adding tones of soft bronze, taupe and a nude lip.

What’s a garden without flowers? Needless to say, florals played a huge role in the overall theme. “As romance and elements of nature were focal points of the design plan, the textures and muted tones of the selected florals were sure to complete the direction of the design for both a seamless and classic look,” says Brittany Rogers of Dressed in Details. “I believe florals always add just another touch of sophistication and romantic expression.”

The shoot’s muted bouquets, centerpiece arrangements and floral accents complemented the overall theme exquisitely and featured huckleberry, ivy, olive leaf, roses, garden peonies, gardenia foliage, stock and ranunculus. Firefly Events farm chairs, La Tavola linens and napkins, and a Silk & Willow table runner were the final touches.

Marble is popping up everywhere lately and was a perfect choice in the cake’s tiered design. “I thought it was an elegant but still very modern addition to the shoot, and the flowers were added to tie in the garden feel," says Bailye Hannum. “The inside was a simple white cake with buttercream frosting and a thin layer of fresh fruit preserves to incorporate the element of nature.”

Meg Bosse of M.B. Calligraphy used the Take A Seat inspiration board to guide her stationery design. “It was full of soft grays, flowy fabrics and was feminine and romantic, yet simple,” she says. “I wanted to keep the stationery the same, so I chose a warm gray ink and white paper with a soft, deckled edge for the tabletop items to match the softness of the Silk & Willow runner and bride's dress.” The gray envelope paired with white ink was a look that was sure to pop. Meg says, “The vintage stamps add a touch of color and femininity.”

WHAT WE LOVE

Anything that sets a wedding apart is going to grab some attention. And sometimes, it’s all in the details. We love the unique elements this team incorporated.

“One of our favorite aspects of this shoot were the hand-painted plates and custom watercolor backdrop created by Two If By Sea Studios. We love this look, and anticipate these types of customized pieces of art becoming more popular as couples seek ways to make their wedding truly unique.” -TAS girls
