When picturing Chicago, it is hard not to conjure up some image of historic architecture. Melissa Rynberg of Rynberg Photograph immediately envisioned an image like this when Tori Criswell of Tori Lynn Photography told her that she was doing a styled shoot at The Rookery Building in Chicago. Melissa says, “The idea of having the styled shoot came from Tori Criswell who put it all together. What I pictured for this shoot were clean, light and airy photographs where you can see the gorgeous details from this historic building. The building is 181 feet high, twelve stories tall, and considered the oldest standing high-rise in Chicago.” The team was carefully creating a styled shoot that would nod to the detailed architecture of the building.

“With my style being light and airy, I am always wanting as much light as possible,” says Melissa.”This venue has so much natural light, their beautiful tall ceilings made it so much easier for me to get exactly what I wanted to capture. The Rookery Building was such an amazing space!”

With a naturally gorgeous space, the team added in minimal styling. This allowed the building to act as the main focus of the shoot. Given the details of the building, they also wanted a one-of-a-kind dress. They note, “The dress came from Trudie’s Bridal and Formalwear. The dress was a unique gown, making it easy for the bride to feel incredible and show-stopping.”

The hair and makeup were done to match the eye-catching gown. Breeauna Bruce of Breeauna Marie Bruce Hair & Makeup Extraordinaire adds, “I did a simple eyeshadow look that was perfect for her but can look perfect on anyone with the right colors! I had a blast working on this project with hairstylist Kim to make the team's vision come true for an awesome turnout!”

The florals in this shoot were truly breathtaking. Done by Aysel Cristian Floral Atelier, Aysel describes the florals, saying, “I paired white roses with just a little bit of blue delphinium to give it that textural look. To get some sort of dimension, I added Sweet Pea and Dusty Miller.”

Another highlight of this shoot was the cake. Danielle Meredith of Lil’ Ladycakes Indy says, “The cake was covered with my homemade marshmallow fondant and painted with three shades of slate blue buttercream for the look of realistic brushstrokes on canvas! The top tiers were hand-painted with a copper luster dust.”
