They say getting married is the start of something beautiful. It's the beginning of a journey. An adventure. A leap into the unknown. That journey begins the moment you say "I do," but I think even "they" would agree that the real adventure begins on the honeymoon! And just like your wedding, you don't want to have to surrender any details of your dream honeymoon due to a lack of funds. Couples often put their blood, sweat and tears (yes, there is blood and sweat in wedding planning) into their wedding, that they barely have the energy or the money to plan their once-in-a-lifetime vacation.

Indeed, you will plan plenty of trips throughout your lifetime together, but they will pale in comparison to the honeymoon—that is, if you plan it right! The honeymoon is an endeavor in which you will never regret going all out. You may regret spending a thousand dollars on charger plates, but you will never regret doling out some extra cash to zipline among the treetops in a Costa Rican rainforest or swim with dolphins in Hawaii.

With that sentiment in mind, one couple created Honeyfund, the world's most popular honeymoon registry. The concept of opting for honeymoon "sponsorships" rather than the traditional wedding gifts has been around for a while, but many are still unfamiliar or are hesitant to take this approach. One reason is because many (especially older generations) believe in giving the couple wedding gifts that help them get their life started together (cue the spatula sets, the blender, and if you're lucky, a new Keurig!). But, much has changed since Macy's introduced the first wedding registry in the 1920s; couples are getting married later in life and usually already have a blender AND a spatula. #theprogressiveera

With that in mind, Honeyfund offers a platform to create a free honeymoon registry so guests can contribute to your dream vacation! The process is quite simple, actually. Couples choose their destination and plan their entire itinerary. Honeyfund is only a crowdfunding site, it's not an online travel planner. As you plan your itinerary,  you add activities to your Honeyfund page which guests can then choose to help you pay for. The reason why it's free is because Honeyfund doesn't actually handle any of the transactions (unless you pay for the upgrade). Your guests will actually deliver the cash or check directly to you--hopefully in a card because accepting money from people directly is always awkward, isn't it?!

How will you know what activity each guest sponsored? Honeyfund will give your guests a gift certificate to present to you with the money. For example, if you're going to Fiji, you can add gifts to your registry like a beach massage, a kayak rental or a scuba diving tour. Then each person can choose to contribute to the activity of their choice.

If you choose to pay for the Honeyfund service, you can customize your registry website from templated designs and you can accept credit card payments from guests! Pretty slick.

Of course, you can still decide to stick with a traditional registry and still do a honeymoon registry. It's also really cool to post photos on Facebook and tag guests in the photo of you doing the activity they paid for!

Nonetheless, the honeymoon is one adventure you don't want to sacrifice. It's the beginning of a lifelong adventure with the love of your life. And you really deserve to take a timeout after planning that beautiful wedding of yours. And of course, couples who travel together, stay together. That's what "they" say.

Does this sound like too much work? Then you can sign up for our free honeymoon giveaway so we pay for your honeymoon, not you or your guests! WeddingDay Magazine has partnered with other businesses to give one bride a five-day, all-inclusive stay at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico.  Find the details and sign up here.

Hi!I absolutely know how it's important for a bride to choose correctly wedding venue and wedding photographer! As for me, I chose Maldives for my paradise ceremony. I'd been searching for a "pro", and I'd found him on the website http://www.wedgo.net/photographer-in-maldives.html
