Are you Monica from “Friends” who already imagined her wedding since she was young and has a “wedding book”? Maybe you never imagine having one until you found The One? Whether you already have some pre-wedding ideas or just starting to think about it, there are multiple things you need to plan in creating the big day.

Some of the usual necessities that couples plan for their big day are the venue, attire, decorations, food, and invites to name a few. But aside from these, there are also other small but still important details like transportation.

One common option for transportation is renting a limousine. Why not right? If it fits the budget, a limousine would be a comfortable ride for the newly wedded couple, especially the bride. Although the cost is a big deciding factor in choosing this option, safety is also something couples worry about.

A limousine might be a luxurious, fun, and comfortable form of transportation but how safe are they? Can the limousine driver be trusted?

Safety Issues

There has been little news about accidents involving limousines that might cause apprehension toward their safety. These are due to the unique structure of the vehicle. There are certain regulations and processes that raise concerns. Also, the man behind the wheel is a huge factor in ensuring safety.

1. Process

Not all stretch limos are factory-made. This means that some are converted--a sedan car cut into half and extended to make more room. Converted limos are not subjected to specific regulations. Therefore, some safety features could be amiss.

2. Regulations

Consequently, the lack of fixed regulations (for converted ones) forms these safety concerns. Unlike factory-built limos, protection features could be easily be neglected. Protection like side-impact airbags, protection bars, and emergency exits can be lacking in a converted limo.

3. U-Turn

This issue is present not only with limousines. Due to the length of the car, it possess challenges when driving. It can be difficult to drive one and pass through tight roads especially when doing a u-turn. Some of the accidents involving limos occur when doing a u-turn.

4. Driver

Of course, no matter how perfect the limo is, if the driver is not careful, safety would really be compromised. Driving a sedan or SUV does not make a driver qualified to become a limo driver. It takes skill and discipline to be able to take on this type of vehicle.

Things To Look For In a Limousine Driver

If you do plan to rent a limo for your wedding, you should make sure that the vehicle is in perfect condition. It should have the safety features intact and functional. Aside from the car, you need to be ensured that the driver is competent to assist you on your wedding day.

Getting involved in an accident on one of the important days in your life is something you would dread to happen. You would not want to have to call a car accident lawyer and be reminded of a horrible event on what is supposed to be a perfect day. So you should take note of these factors when hiring a driver:

1. Training

There are states wherein limo drivers or chauffeurs are required to have a have special license. They need to be trained to handle driving multiple passengers in an unusual car. The training highly focuses on safety driving like defensive driving style and cushions of safety.

Whether the state requires a chauffer’s license or not, it is important that your hired limo driver is trained and competent to keep you safe during your big day. They should be responsible and careful drivers.

2. Professionalism

Your limo driver should be respectful, not only to the couple but to all of their guests and other passengers. They should not be a source of stress on your wedding day. A professional driver can assure you of safety. You can relax and trust them that they can bring you to your destinations without any trouble.

With their professionalism, you can expect them to know how to act in any situation appropriately. Professionalism comes from multiple experiences with different kinds of clients.

3. Attire

An executive car should be partner up with a well-groomed chauffeur as well. Attire is also a part of professionalism - visual evidence of it. Weddings are a type of event that embodies class and aesthetics. It is only expected that the driver dresses appropriately for it.

4. Street Smart

A lot can happen while on the road; it is an unpredictable place. A lot can happen when you are on the road. There might be traffic, unexpected road blockage, closed road, and many more.

The driver should be familiar with the area of your wedding venue and reception. This way they can create the best route to make your travel faster, smoother, and more comfortable as possible.

5. Critical Thinking

Again, there could be surprises while driving to your wedding venue. Your driver should be able to think fast and solve sudden problems that may arise. They should be able to overcome obstacles and keep you safe whatever happens.

Your wedding is an important day. You deserve to be comfortable in your travel and even have some type of luxury by renting a limousine. You just need to ensure that you rent from a respectable car service.

Keep in mind to check the condition of the limousine before renting it. Ask if it is a factory-built limo or a converted one. Double-check the care features especially the safety components for protection.

The level of safeness that you can expect from your wedding limousine driver can be seen in his credentials. Look into his training, skills, and knowledge.

Ideally, the chauffeur that would be part of your rented limo is professional and skilled. However, you should still check out and get to know the one who will drive you on your wedding day to ensure that you can trust them to keep the bridal couple and their guests safe.
