Please tell us a little more about your business.

"I grew up in my mom’s flower shop and continued to help her through my adult life. Five years ago, she passed and we sold her shop and at that same time I decided to walk away from my teaching career to be home with my kids. After about six months of being home, I realized I wanted to do more and that is when I came up with the idea to start Special Occasion Designs to carry on my mother's legacy as a florist but allow me to focus on the part of the industry that I always enjoyed the most- weddings and events. I am heading into my fifth wedding season on my own and have truly enjoyed watching the business grow and focusing on growing my business and what we offer to each and every client."

What sets you apart from others? Why should a bride choose you? 

"I feel that we are very diverse and can work with many different styles. I also focus on trying to give every couple as much of their vision within their budget that I can. We really focus on giving each of our clients that best experience possible so they have one less thing to worry and stress about on their big day. We build a trust with them through communication and knowledge so that they know when it comes to their big day, everything as far as the floral and décor will be taken care of and ready to go."
 

What inspires you as an event designer?  

"I really just love the freedom to be able to create and have fun and to see what new styles and looks I can come up with. Usually, I am inspired by a color scheme that I come across and then I figure out a way to incorporate that into florals. I also get inspiration from fashion, design shows or some new thing like a vase, arch, etc. that looks like it needs flowers added to it."

What do you love most about working with couples? 

"I love when we can take a simple idea or picture and add a unique touch to it so that it now becomes theirs. I love when I can pull their vision together to give them everything they imagined for their big day and make those dreams a reality. And just to be trusted as a part of someone's big day is just amazing."
