A Minimalist Micro-Wedding in a Bloomington Backyard: The Real Wedding of Andrea and Grant

Even though Andrea and Grant lived in the same dorm in college, they didn’t start dating until they had graduated. Two right swipes on Bumble led to a perfect pairing!

Grant successfully kept his proposal a secret. After getting Andrea to cancel her plans for a date night, he managed to “forget the house key”.  When they went around to the backyard, Andrea discovered their deck had been decorated with petals and votive candles by Grant’s brother and sister-in-law. “ I was so surprised when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him,” Andrea gushes.

“I got my dress at Sophia’s Bridal and Tux in Indianapolis,” Andrea says. “And the ladies up there were excellent. They made dress shopping during the pandemic fun and easy.” She had borrowed a jeweled headpiece from a friend, so Andrea knew she wanted a simple dress to complement the headpiece. Though Andrea knew the first or second one she tried on was the dress she wanted, she tried on a few more just for fun. “After getting into my dress the second time though, there was no going back,” Andrea explains.

However, this wedding wasn’t completely smooth sailing for Andrea and Grant. They originally booked their venue for 230+ guests and set the date for October 8th of 2021. Once October of 2020 hit and both of them were struck by COVID-19, they decided gathering that many people one year later couldn’t be safe. They changed the venue to their backyard, rounded up 25 of their closest friends and family and celebrated on June 4th, instead. Andrea says, “Having a small wedding really allowed us to focus on the people and the smallest details of the day as opposed to trying to feed and entertain a ton of guests.”

What We Love

The vendors were incredibly helpful to make this micro-wedding a success. “I can’t say enough good things about our vendors,” Andrea gushes. “They all worked so well together and made everything easy for us. I would highly recommend them all!”

Advice from the Couple

Andrea and Grant suggest doing away with some traditions like not seeing each other the morning of the wedding. Instead, they took time together the morning of to go on a walk. It was a peaceful moment for them together before the flurry of their wedding began. They also suggest having your wedding on a Friday instead of over the weekend. “We planned a lake day Saturday after our wedding, and we loved spending an extra, less busy day with our friends and family,” Andrea explains.
