Emily and Scotty first met at a restaurant. When Scotty decided he wanted to go on a date with Emily, he left his number on a napkin before joining friends at another restaurant. Emily texted him right away, and they planned a date for 4th of July weekend. After sharing a kiss under the fireworks, the two started dating. On the day he wanted to propose, Scotty took Emily kayaking while her family set up the house for the proposal. "Scotty took Emily to her parents' house for a goodbye party for Scotty and Emily as they were moving to Florida. He proposed in front of Emily’s family around a bonfire and she said yes!" the couple shares.

Take a look at that stunning dress! We love the elegant lace that flows throughout, and think it is the perfect gown for Emily. "The dress was EVERYTHING!" Emily gushes. "I knew I wanted straps and lace on the top of the dress, but originally, I wanted a plain bottom with no lace. I ended up choosing a completely laced dress as it accentuated my figure better and had gorgeous detail!" Speaking of attire, the groomsmen all wore American flag socks since Emily and Scotty had their first date on the 4th of July.

Recalling dates was an important aspect of their big day. Since Emily's dad set up plenty of greenery for their proposal, the happy couple wanted to incorporate greenery in their modern garden wedding. Green is Emily's favorite color while Scotty's is blue, so their color palette was born out of their compromise of dark teal. They added light gold as an accent color and plenty of white to keep the scene balanced. Emily explains, "The colors came together beautifully as the bridesmaids wore dark teal, groomsmen were in gray tuxes with a dark teal tie, Scotty in a dark teal bow tie, and the flower girls/ring bearers in light gold."

With Scotty's family being from Ohio and Emily's from Indiana, they worked hard to find a venue that was somewhat in the middle that matched their plans for their wedding. They settled on Fort Wayne, which helped them narrow down venues and additional vendors. The main reason they landed on their venue was from the greenery, waterfall and blooms around the venue. Other fantastic vendors at the wedding came from recommendations from friends!

What We Love

Unfortunately, Scotty's father passed away in March of 2022, so they had a spot reserved for him at their wedding in August 2022. They also decided to opt for a sparkler send off to relate back to their first kiss under the fireworks. "We shared our first kiss and always said how 'the sparks flew', so this was a special touch to remember how it all started!" the Martins rave.

Advice from the Couple

"Take a moment during your wedding reception to stop whatever you are doing and capture the moment. Once the ceremony is over and the reception began, I feel like we never sat down. It was always go, go, go; onto the next event. Scotty and I took 10 seconds during the evening to stop and look around to cherish that memory forever, and I will never forget it," the Martins advise. "As much as you want it to, things are not going to go 100% as planned. I am very much a planner and love to be organized so when something doesn’t go as planned, it gives me major anxiety. I was so glad I put the idea of everything being perfect out of my head because things did not go 100% as planned. Because I went in with that mentality, I had no stress and the day was beyond perfect in my eyes."
