Sydney, a self-proclaimed morning and exercise hater, made it to the gym at 5:30 a.m. each morning just to talk with Chelsi. And her dedication quickly paid off when they decided to go on a date together shortly after. Chelsi made a big deal of their engagement by taking Sydney to her favorite book shop in Columbus and hiring Sydney’s favorite photographer. “The day was absolutely perfect and caught me completely by surprise,” Sydney gushes.
Finding the venue was the first goal Sydney and Chelsi set. Sydney explains, “Chelsi and I are both in love with the outdoors, but also we’re both very into vintage and antique feels.” Being in the middle of their families (located in northern and southern Ohio) was also important. “Once they had the venue booked, everything else seemed to fall into place around it,” Sydney says.
Both brides took different routes in finding their dream dresses. Chelsi originally ordered one online but later decided she wanted to shop in person with her mother. Sydney went all the way to Cincinnati to scour the bridal district with her friends. She thought she wanted a long-sleeved, vintage dress. However, Sydney ended up with a thinly strapped dress instead. She says, “I’m so glad I ended up with the dress I did though since it ended up being in the 80s for our outdoor wedding!” And the stunning hair and makeup done by 614 Beauty perfectly complements both looks!
Their family helped D.I.Y. many of the decor pieces for the wedding. “Our cousin constructed our arch using bulk flowers, a lot of our more handy friends built the greenery wall, and Chelsi’s step-dad built our antique barn door seating chart,” Sydney explains. On top of that, Chelsi and Sydney made all the centerpieces and prints!
Even though Sydney and Chelsi created a lot of the decor, their vendors were truly what any bride could ask for. “Our vendors were absolutely amazing and we really didn’t run into any problems there; if anything came up they were quick to problem solve with us!” Sydney raves.
What We Love
Chelsi and Sydney both love poetry (Chelsi even writes some in her spare time!), so they made sure to incorporate it into their wedding. “Our table numbers were actually the names of all our favorite poets, with our favorite poem on the back of the centerpiece. We used poetry in our vows and also had a reading from our favorite poet during the ceremony,” Sydney explains.
Advice from the Couple
They advise, “There’s no “right” way to do a wedding. If a tradition feels significant to you and your spouse, go for it, but if you find yourself feeling like it doesn’t hold meaning to you personally, don’t worry about what other people think.”
