You’ve set the date, now it’s time to plan your wedding—the day you’ve always dreamed about! Many brides have thought about getting married in the backyard of their childhood home from the time they played dress up wedding as a little girl, or perhaps there is a park or special place where you said “yes!” to become his wife?

But Now the Questions Come...

What about rain?
Will it be too hot or too cold?
Where will your caterer cook?
What about a dance floor?
Will there be enough electricity?
What about restrooms?

These are all legitimate concerns but they can be overcome with the help of experienced professionals who know the drill, have seen it all, and know how to help plan AND have a back-up plan when needed. Back-up plans help eliminate stress and are essential if you’re planning your ceremony outside and/or a reception out in the open without any shelter or covering at all.

OUTDOOR CEREMONY BACK-UP OPTIONS

If you’re getting married outdoors where there is no shelter, use your reception hall as back-up, even if your guests are seated at tables and the ceremony is performed on the dance floor. Plan it right—have a backdrop behind the head table or use the cake to double as a ceremony accent if it has to. Another option is to have a church on hold in case you need to move the ceremony inside.

RECEPTION BACK-UP OPTIONS

If you are planning to tent an area for your wedding, one main concern should be the possibility of lower ground flooding. So before the tent is installed, look at all of the outdoor areas available and plan to set up on higher ground, possibly adding temporary flooring or moving to a concrete drive area. Yes, this takes a bit more time and planning in that last week leading up to the wedding, but you can be prepared for that. Reputable, experienced tent companies have the staff and equipment necessary to make sure your reception is wonderful and perfect. Tents are waterproof and when properly installed, the sidewalls will be airtight. Heaters or fans are always an option to help ensure the comfort of you and your guests.

KEEP BUGS AWAY

As a professional in this industry, my biggest concern for outside issues is bugs—specifically mosquitoes and bees—but there are solutions to help address those as well.

Mosquito Beater is a granule that is sprinkled on the ground and works like a miracle. Added insurance? Place mosquito coils underneath tables on a small terra cotta saucer. Cucumber slices placed inconspicuously around the area (especially anywhere there are sweets) will keep bees at bay.

To plan the wedding of your dreams, be sure to hire a company with plenty of experience and a great reputation—one you are comfortable working with and you trust to make decisions for you. An experienced professional can take the worry out of your special day, making it easy and stress-free for you, your family and your guests.
