Break out your maps and get ready for your next road trip! You'll definitely want to check out this local Midwest city that was entered into our Best Midwest Wedding City 2020 Contest. Every delightful destination that was nominated brings its own down-home charm that you won't find anywhere else. And don't just take it from us! Read on to see why Megan and Paul picked Nashville, Indiana to tie the knot.

How did you know Nashville was where you and Paul wanted to tie the knot?

"We met in Indiana while attending IU and it's where some of my family lives. We knew it would be convenient to reach from Chicago as well, since we'd have to be driving back and forth for planning. However, it wasn't until we were driving through the woods, surrounded by the trees and spring flowers that we really fell in love. As we rounded the corner, the tiny town and Story Inn unfolded like something from a picture book–beautiful, vintage, welcoming. Horses and motorcycles stood side by side as people rode through town to enjoy the food and music at the Inn. More than anything, we wanted a place where our friends and family could spend the entire weekend with us and where we could make more memories than just the 'big day' itself. We both knew immediately that this was definitely it!"

Did you use any local features in your wedding?

"Yes, we wanted to use as many local vendors/features as possible! Since we live in Chicago, we brought a few things down with us and then had the venue suggest other local options. Our wedding favors were local pots of honey from Heritage Prairie Farm in Elburn, Illinois. Our pies were made from scratch by a favorite spot we walk across our park to eat at many mornings: Bang Bang! Pie and Biscuits in Chicago, Illinois. The Story Inn also sources a great deal of their food and ingredients from local farmers as well as their own on-site garden. The beer and wine we selected for the weekend drew from local breweries/vineyards throughout Indiana. Though not specifically 'locally produced' we did also get all of our reception plates from friends, family and antique shops to create a mix and match style that fit the venue's unique feel. Our musicians were also from the IU School of Music (which Megan attended) and from around nearby Bloomington, Indiana."

What would you tell couples who are looking to get married in Nashville?

"Communication is really key! Take notes about everything that's ever detailed by vendors: review final decisions and exactly what they're providing for what cost with each vendor as you have your face-to-face or via e-mail after an appointment and make a big spreadsheet with everything you've done and still need to do. Some of our biggest hiccups were because something was mentioned in the moment that later didn't seem to hold true or that the vendors had changed/misinterpreted without our knowing. Overall though, everything comes together in the end and the event is inevitably great (even when you have a groomsmen pass out like we did!). We wouldn't trade any memory from that weekend for the world! Speaking of which, don't be afraid to plan additional time for your friends and family, whether it's a picnic or other event. It's so worth it to take extra time outside of the ceremony day to really catch up."
