There’s no doubt the rustic nature of a barn setting can be quite alluring. In fact, barn nuptials continue to pop up everywhere! Contrast all those natural and earthy elements with the elegance only a wedding can provide and the pairing can be quite breathtaking. This Hidden Vineyard Barn style shoot, designed by Rhiannon Bosse, was no exception, and—bonus—it took a purple color palette to a whole new level!

Rhiannon explains, “The venue's owner approached me to help plan and design a shoot that would highlight the venue's unique features. I immediately jumped at the opportunity. The barn on the property is so beautiful and the owners have done a great job keeping it as a blank slate to appeal to every unique client looking to host their event there. And then that gorgeous, larger than life catalpa tree is unlike anything you've ever seen before! With so many gorgeous places on the property for various vignettes in our editorial, I knew we would have a gorgeous end result as displayed in the photographs.”

What were Rhiannon's magic ingredients? Some lovely shades of purple, lilac, and lavender and a dash of French blue and copper. The result? A very elegant scene complete with a fresh blend of colors.

“This rustic elegance editorial project was designed to bridge together the approachability and magic of a place like Hidden Vineyard with a dash of formality that you may encounter in a ballroom wedding setting,” Rhiannon goes on to explain. “When you juxtapose casual elements with higher end details the result is unexpected and enticing so I wanted that to be very evident in the final product. I also wanted to take a color palette that can sometimes come across as standoffish or flamboyant (purple) and make it appear fresh and alluring.”

Part of the allure was undoubtedly owed to the abundant centerpieces. The flowers were a true focal point in the design and Rhiannon created a magical scene using hundreds of stems, a subtle ombré effect, variety and texture. “You wouldn't expect such a grand and extravagant centerpiece to sit atop a country wood table on the porch of a barn but that was the intent with this project—to bring together two ends of a spectrum into something beautiful.” she says. “For the bride's bouquet I used all sweet peas to create a dainty but still full creation that complemented her gown.”

So let’s talk about those gowns! Rhiannon says, “I wanted everything to be romantic and feminine almost as a bridge between the rustic and the elegance we were after, so you'll see lots of texture and unique fabrics like tulle, lace, and beaded belts on the gowns.”

We all know how key makeup is on your big day, and we think you’ll agree the model's makeup was radiant, too—both feminine and formal.

The team paid special attention to the rentals as they knew they played a large role in bringing the vision to life. “The farmhouse table was appropriate for the venue's vibe but also allowed me to design such a large and showstopping centerpiece,” says Rhiannon. “From the vintage dinner plates to the copper chargers, and the sleek stemware to the rustic flatware, everything worked so harmoniously together. The vintage chandelier hanging over the table only added to the beauty already created. We were lucky to be able to work with The Rental Company's and Fancy Fray's beautiful inventory!”

For the stationery, Rhiannon turned to the team at Aerialist Press. “While the paper products were each individually quite gorgeous, it was the details of each that really stood out,” says Rhiannon. “Details like copper ink calligraphy, dark purple silk ribbon fastened to the ceremony booklets, and French blue letterpress on the invitations were all so thoughtful and intentional.” We agree that the pretty lavender envelopes were a super sweet touch (sure to put a smile on any recipient's face).

The Sweet Heather Anne cake was displayed on a distressed end table. Its simple, textured, three-tiered design, made it the perfect buttercream creation!
