Shoot for the Stars with this Alternative Style Shoot: Once in a Blue Moon Style Shoot

Photos ByKelly Slaven Photography

If you love all things spacey and astrological, this shoot is for you. Wedding decorator and planner Maggie O'Heran of Magpie Weddings helped photographer Kelly Slaven bring her celestial-themed shoot to life after meeting at a bridal expo. Kelly explains, “This love only needed the stars to attend their intimate ceremony and reception for two.”

The stationery was the jumping-off point for the rest of the decor in the shoot. As Maggie says, “Invitations are the first 'clue' into what to expect at a wedding. I always have the goal to provide a sneak peek of what to expect from them, and the decor flows from there."

The innovative cake table is one of our favorites. “A 'comet's tail' of white fabric flowing from the Two Sons Cakery cake to the floor truly made it a focal point of the room,” Kelly says. We also think the moody colors match the celestial theme perfectly. The dark blues and purples make the silver and gold pop like stars in the night sky.

We are absolutely obsessed with the custom-made hat and earrings. They look gorgeous on the bride and complement the theme beautifully!

Four different dresses from Sophia's Bridal & Tux were used in this shoot to accurately capture the moods Kelly and Maggie wanted. The reception dress was Kelly’s favorite. She gushes, “The show-stopping reception dress was chosen for its sparkly, star-like sequins to complement our celestial theme. I particularly like the shots where this dress looks like a galaxy of stars swirling around our bride!”
