For Alexandra and Aaron, it all started when their respective high schools were having a rival basketball game. The two were introduced by mutual friends, but Aaron soon joined the Army and the pair was not sure if they could make it work long distance. Alexandra says, "We jumped in with both feet, not knowing if our relationship would survive this giant change and the distance that would soon be between us. In the end, the relationship worked and we have been happily together ever since!"

When it came to the proposal, Aaron was coming home for Christmas and asked Alexandra if there was anything that she really wanted to do while he was home. She told him she wanted to go to "Light Up the Bluff" in St. Joseph, Michigan. Then, she says, "On December 23, he took me out to dinner and then to the bluff as a date night idea. I thought it was just another cute gesture of his, trying to make up for the time that we spend apart. As we were walking the bluff, he started to get that look on his face and I just knew that something was up. When I asked him if everything was okay, he stopped me, got down on one knee with the biggest smile on his face and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I couldn’t imagine spending my life with anyone other than my best friend, my hero, and the love of my life."

Alexandra chose her venue before anything else. She ended up choosing the charming Stonegate Manor because, "It was a gorgeous venue, and Prudy was the sweetest, most amazing person. She really helped me to see my vision when I walked into the venue and was able to accommodate us on short notice due to having to move the wedding up!"

The one thing working against Alexandra was the timing. With Aaron being in the Army and Alexandra being a college student, they had a short time frame to plan the big day. But with some team effort, they were able to pull together all the details. Alexandra made all the centerpieces herself with her bridesmaids, mother and mother-in-law. Her grandmother also handmade all the doilies that were used for table decoration.

what we love

Alexandra had her family with her through all the planning and the big day. A special touch was the watch that Alexandra wore. She says, "My grandmother gave me my great-great grandmother’s watch to wear on my wedding day. The watch was given to my great-great grandmother by her husband on their wedding day instead of a ring. Every woman on my mother’s side of the family has worn it when they have gotten married, and it was very special for me to take part in this tradition!"

This wedding also held an extra surprise for the bride. Aaron chose to sing "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran to his new bride! It was a moment that Alexandra did not see coming and made everyone at the wedding (and us!) swoon.
