This bride happens to be a pretty special one for us here at WeddingDay. Not just because she is a lovely bride with an equally lovely wedding but because she is one of our fave guest WeddingDay bloggers! Read on for more on her sweet story, photos full of great inspo, and why we were all kinds of excited when we saw this beauty of a wedding!

Fate. That is a word that describes the paths of many who fall in love and it is no different for Andi and Cole Sherman. “Cole and I lived in two very different worlds, over three hours apart,” Andi of Something Blue Stylists explains. “By all accounts, there is no reason we should have met at all, but as fate would have it, we were at the same Chive Charities event in May, 2014. A week later, Cole and I connected again at the Jason Aldean concert on Memorial Day weekend. I like to tease him that it was his American flag shorts that won me over.” Exactly one year later, Cole got down on one knee (minus the charming shorts) and proposed to Andi, beside a sunset-lit lake.

Knowing from the beginning that her wedding nuptials would not be of the traditional sort, but rather fun and reflective of their quirky personalities, she got busy planning the unique wedding of her dreams. “Being in the wedding industry, I get to work with some of the most amazing people every weekend,” she says. “It was SO hard narrowing down who I would be able to use, but I booked my core dream team (coordinator, venue, catering, florals and hair/makeup) within a week of being engaged. It helped ease a lot of anxiety knowing that I had that taken care of.”

You can only guess how much Pinterest pinning a wedding industry professional is involved in. While she did seek out inspiration, Andi opted to focus on what she truly liked and not necessarily what was trending. To help keep everything organized, she found the Plan The Day app particularly helpful.

Selecting a venue proved easy for Andi and Cole. Sylvan Cellars caught Andi’s eye as she loved the idea of having her ceremony and reception in one location. “Pair that with the craft brewery on the main level,” she says “and I knew it was the best option for us!”

When it came to booking her other vendors, Andi picked her favorites and also asked the selected vendors for their own recommendations. “As a wedding vendor myself, I see A LOT of behind the scenes on wedding days, and I wanted to know who they would hire as well,” she explains. “My coordinator, Sarah of Plum and Poppy, was such a big help giving me her honest feedback and recommending quality vendors.”

Knowing her body type and what silhouettes work best for her was her guide in choosing the perfect dress, and it was a BHLDN dress from their spring 2016 line that ultimately won this bridal look expert’s heart. “I wanted something I could move and dance in,” she recalls. “So, when I saw it, it was love at first sight!"

Andi and Cole’s wedding color scheme included gray, soft peach, metallics and a wide range of greens. “I loved the softness of the peach, and the timeless look of gray,” Andi says. “The green added some much needed depth, while the metallic elements gave me the sparkle I knew I had to have!” Aligning with these hues, the florals included peach garden roses and hydrangeas with lots of eucalyptus and greenery filler.

This couple also went the extra mile to include some special touches. “We had so many little details that were unique to us,” Andi explains. “My kids, Memphis and Maggie, were very much involved in the whole wedding process. As a family, we love all things nerdy: Harry Potter, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Doctor Who, and that’s just naming a few. We knew we wanted to touch on each of them without it feeling cheesy.” Whether writing personalized vows to each other and their children, painting hundreds of dinosaurs as a nod to Cole’s childhood obsession with Jurassic Park or ensuring that the grand entrance also included Darth Vader and his storm troopers, Andi and Cole stopped at nothing to ensure their wedding was uniquely their own.

Being a wedding industry creative, you would expect some D.I.Y. projects from Andi and sure enough, she created what she couldn’t find. “We did a lot of things ourselves because the kind of stuff that we wanted wasn’t available anywhere,” Andi says. “I bought a Cricut machine and cut all of our ‘Golden Snitch’ place cards, and my husband did all of our larger wooden wedding signs, including our giant ‘Cole and Andi’ sign we used as a cake backdrop. I designed all of our stationery, programs, menus, and our guestbook as well, because there was really nothing out there that fit everything that I wanted.”

What We Love

We love that rain or shine, this bride and her team were prepared, rather than at the mercy of the elements. Besides Andi’s coordinator, Sarah, having a rain plan, Andi ordered cute rain boots for her 'maids and umbrellas for the entire bridal party!

We also adore that Andi sought inspo from WeddingDay! She says, “WeddingDay Magazine is such a great tool for getting inspiration during the planning process. From real weddings to styled shoots, there is always new and fresh ideas to inspire. That, paired with lots of helpful articles and blogs. To this day, I still love having the newest issue of WeddingDay Magazine on my coffee table every day."
