Ashley and Billy met in college. Having each joined a sorority and fraternity, they got to know each other and attended date parties and formals together. Ashley says, “A few months later, he asked me to be his girlfriend, and the rest is history!”

One memorable summer night, Ashley had a whole evening planned for Billy’s birthday. Little did she know, he had a surprise in store, too. While walking the Detroit riverfront, Billy was suddenly down on one knee, asking for Ashley’s hand in marriage.

Lucky for Ashley, her twin sister was married the month prior so she was a helpful resource. Ashley also turned to wedding magazines (including WeddingDay!) and started following several wedding related Instagram accounts.

Ashley desired a classic fall wedding with a bit of a unique twist. The dark hunter green color she chose stole her heart with its richness and beauty. Ashley was also inspired by her venue and its grounds, gardens, trees, brick buildings and inside decor. Ashley says, “Michigan has many golf courses and clubs to choose from, so this wasn’t easy! I fell in love with the history of Pine Knob Golf Course, The Mansion and The Carriage House. Both venues/buildings were built in 1927. I fell in love with the crystal chandeliers, picturesque floor to ceiling windows that overlook the golf course (Billy loves to golf!) as well as the piano and faux wood fireplace.”

Ashley says, “I bought my dress at The Wedding Shoppe in Berkley! They design their own dresses and several people recommended I check it out. I knew I was looking for a form fitting dress with a sweetheart neckline that was classy and elegant but also a little sassy!”

Ashley collaborated with one of her bridesmaids to have her create designs for the menu cards, table numbers, hashtag sign and signature drink sign. She also worked with one of her vendors to design her invitation suite, welcome sign, programs and seating chart. “My mom made the gold stands the donuts were displayed on using candle sticks and gold charger plates as well as a shadow box display that went on our gift table,” says Ashley. “I made a guestbook on Shutterfly that displayed our engagement pictures. I am a very detail-oriented person!”

Ashley says, “I’ve always loved greens and blues and searched for something that was more of a combination of both. When I found the hunter green bridesmaid dresses, I knew that was perfect! I really liked the way gold accented the dark green, and when I met with my florist and she showed me the white, cream and light blush flowers with lots of greenery, I knew all of it would come together beautifully! I also thought the gold accents added a Gatsby-like touch to everything which really helped pull in the classy and beautiful elements I wanted.”

Advice From the Bride

This #BaumannBound bride says, “Recommendations and reviews are key when picking vendors! Pick the top three elements that are most important to you and spend the most time and money on those things. Make sure you book a good photographer even if you have to spend extra. Pictures last forever and are not only for you but your family as well! Throughout the process, remember that when the day comes it’s not the little details that matter, it’s marrying the love of your life with your family and friends there to celebrate with you!”

What We Love

Ashley says, “I first started following WeddingDay Magazine on Instagram when my photographer posted about the magazine on her own Instagram account. I used your account as inspiration for my own wedding! I love that you feature brides and weddings from my area (Michigan) and the Midwest.”
